When it is my turn to judge I often have to remind myself that art is personal. We had family for dinner tonight
and they were no help as every image was someone’s favorite. So in the end, I have to go with what has appealed to me…..and of course that is how it should be.
I knew the image that had immediately caught my eye, I knew the one I wanted as IOW but it was that second spot that had me going in circles. I could easily have chosen any of the other seven that remained. So here’s how it went.
When I first saw Fabio and Pals by dandc , I was immediately drawn to the muted color palette. Greens are often hard to get right. I found the soft greens and yellow of the field a beautiful backdrop for the three wild horses.
The fact that they were all looking in the direction of the photographer had me wondering how he got their attention.
Added to this was their perfect placement within the setting. It is a lovely shot and one that I could see matted, framed and hung on the wall.
This is where I had the hardest time making my selection. I finally went with Canada Day, July 1: Waiting for the parade by angelag . Children love a parade.
While waiting I wonder what the boy in the red shirt is sharing with the little boy in blue. True communication requires an active listener.
Even though we only see his profile, everything about the earnest expression of the little boy suggests that he is oblivious to everything around him at this moment save the boy in the red shirt.
A priceless capture between two little boys.
My choice for IOW is Driftwood Baseball by kathylee . There is something magical about going to the beach
in early evening when the day crowd has left. There is a feeling of peace and tranquility as the sky changes with the afterglow of the setting sun. The soft sound of the sea and occasional sea birds add to my favorite time at the beach.
But here we have something more. A beautiful silhouette of two resourceful people playing a game that they fashioned themselves. A wonderful capture that I imagine will transport the photographer back to a warm summer evening at the beach
each time she looks at it.
