I guess I'll go first. I imagine there will be quite a variety of images included in this thread as there are certainly more than three standouts for me. That being said I will choose three that I would like to comment on....in no particular order. Submitted by drjoerogers for Cathryn i.ibb.co/9Nz2kdV/Nantucket-cliffs-lighthouse-PSE.jpgI am used to seeing lighthouses prominent in a scene. Here the photographer chose another point of view and for me it works well. The wispy clouds are just beautiful and the editing only enhances their delicate appearance. Nothing overdone here and I find that especially appealing. The golden cliffs, the grasses and trees are all handled with restraint. Finally it is the tip of the distant lighthouse that gives our eyes something to land on in what for me is a well seen landscape. Submitted by srmoment Pat has shared some of her frozen flowers before and I have always been impressed with her efforts to fine tune the results. I seem to remember her describing the process a year or so ago and it was not as simple as it might seem. The colors of the flower against the blue/green water with just enough of the ice evident to make you realize what you are looking at make this an image that I imagine would be beautiful printed on glass. Submitted by Pete61 i.ibb.co/f0Xk1mT/Moonrise.jpgThe framing, the soft colors and the tranquil mood all make this a very appealing image to me. It is one of those images that I imagine takes the photographer back to that time and place where he can almost close his eyes and relive the moment. Because I like my own images that have that effect on me, I am immediately drawn to work that I feel have that kind of an impact.

Choosing only three images doesn't get any easier. Having thought long and hard about it here are my three choices on this occasion. Not in any order. Lily and Feather by jackscrap i.ibb.co/98y0727/Lily-studioedited.jpgThis appeals to me very much. It caught my eye when it was first uploaded. The flow, the colour, the texture and presentation of the piece is just so beautiful. Beach Dunes by Helen u.cubeupload.com/HMCA/DSC00041Beach1Edit.jpg I'm not a great lover of black and white images but this is just gorgeous. I can almost smell the beach and the sea when I look at it. It evokes scenes reminiscent of some of the old black and white movies. I'm thinking Hitchcock and the old crime/detective/thriller type movies. Juvenile Short-eared Owl by Charles J. i.ibb.co/P9bW92v/2019-Jul-4th-16.jpg I like the composition of this image and just love the owl staring out at me from his/her precarious perch. Well that's my three for this time. I could have chosen more as there are so many great images in this collection. Thanks to all for allowing us to see them.

Thank you hmca for running and hosting Members Choice once again. Wow!!!!!......21 images! Again it was extremely difficult to narrow it down to just 3 choices for comment, but these are my 3 picks in in alphabetical order of the image creator."Ocean's Fury by HMCA"I'm not sure if I would have chosen "Fury" in the title given the relatively flat water in the background but I really like how the slow shutter speed smooths out the water splash which compliments the calmness of the ocean in the background. "August moon-rise at the ferry dock - Galiano Island, BC, Canada by pete61"I love really nice landscapes/seascapes and this one is a gem. The use of the foliage to frame the scene is brilliant and the positioning of the moon being close to a rule-of-thirds point really helps keep the eyes looking through the frame. The exposure and/or post processing result in next to no loss of details. "Stormy Skies by tpgettys"Here again, I'm not sure if I would have chosen "Stormy" in the title. On my screen the colours and texture of the clouds in the sky are absolutely amazing. They look more like the glow coming through the clouds from a raging fiery inferno on the far side. Even though the sky is in the background, its colours and texture to me, make it function as the subject.

Hi all. Thanks for managing this Helen! And thanks to all who posted photos on their galleries.
My selections in order of preference are.
#1 12. Umbrellas Needed by kathylee
Not sure what it is, but this lovely photo just does something for me. It is moody and you could write a short story about what is happening outside. The pastel colors are pleasing. I. Really. Like. This. Photo.
#2 18. Hollyhock ice flower by srmoment
Definitely not something I'd try, but this is striking. Would make a great wall-sized poster. Lovely colors.
#3 15. Beach Dunes by HMCA
Pleasing tones and composition. Nice B&W conversion. Great sky and neat ripple patterns in the sand.

Soooo many image to pick from, narrowing it down to just three was a struggle, but here goes...
I love the light in this image, reminds me of the beaches I like to walk along when visiting the coastlines in my neck of the woods.
A steam train crossing over a bridge seems to tell a story, so many questions about where it's going and what's on board.
The positioning of the birds draws in my focus, and then I find the undulating water surface to be quite intriguing.

My selections, in the order they were presented, are:
Lily and feather by jackscrap Intriguing – The composition of this botanical portrait/composite at first looks so simple but the longer I view it its complexity is unveiled. A beautiful job of processing and texture work to bring the viewer into the scene to enjoy all that is presented.
Beach Dunes by HMCA Simply Beautiful – This basic seashore scene really pops into beauty in B&W. The low viewpoint highlights the texture of the dune, with its eye popping clarity, while gaining great contrast with the sky. This presentation really invites the viewer to step into the scene to see what’s just over the dune.
Nantucket by drjoerogers for Cathryn Stunning – Not just another lighthouse scene – this wide view displays a grand scene with the lighthouse color and tone drawing the viewers from the white cliffs thru the shot to itself and the clouds just made me stop to view the whole stunning scene.

What a splendid variety of photos to choose from! Narrowing to only 3 was quite a tussle, but my final selections are:
Ocean's Fury by HMCA
The awesome power of the sea as captured in a fleeting glimpse. This photo and it's very appropriate title bring to mind the superb seascape paintings of J.M.W. Turner. Well composed with a zig-zag leading line of rocks providing depth and muted colors that support rather than distract from the subject.
Beach Dunes by HMCA
Last Fall I was fortunate enough to spend some time along the shoreline of Cape Cod and this photo of windswept dunes and grasses triggers great memories of that day. A thoughtfully considered juxtaposition of contrasting textures and tones makes this black & white image a pleasure to view.
Bales at the Porcupine Hills by Clive
I like this photo for the way it sweeps the eye back and forth in easy curves from the furrows in the ground at the bottom center of the frame all the way back to the distant dark hill on the middle left. Repetition of the hay bales in diminishing size provide depth and foreground/middle ground interest.

Great submissions. Thanks to all for sharing. We are all winners! Umbrellas Needed, by kathylee There is a lot of atmosphere and strangeness in this image. The grey goes with a rainy day while the pastel colours in conjunction with what seems to be a relatively slow paste of movement from the people give a sense of serenity. All of this appears in a meticulous composition. The white lines are forming interesting diagonals and adding rhythm. We feel the mood from the outside, and the inside. Well thought and well executed. Hollyhock ice flower, by srmoment If it had not been of Helen’s comment, I would not have realized that frozen flower photograpy was involved in the creation of this wonderful image. The composition, the textures, the vibrance of the colours, the luminosity, the gradations, the framing, everything work so well together. Wild sunflower, Porcupine Hills, by pontiac1940 Simplicity does it all. A simplicity fashioned by a meaningful combination of different elements such as the weather, the natural complementary of the colours, the negative space, the angle, the focal length and the shallow depth of field. I can hear the flower signing the chorus of “Good Day Sunshine”.
