September 2 at 23:00 near Cowley, Alberta looking south. About 90 to 120° field of view. This is a 2-shot vertorama. Never tried this before. Needs work ... and possibly a new faster and wider-angle lens! I presume the three streaks to be small meteors as they are clustered and were not "dashed" as are plane lights.

These are terrific. I like them both. It seems like you were able to bring out more color in the second one. Must be awe-inspiring to be there.

Thanks Helen and whippet. The MW can be seen easily on a clear night, but it is nothing like seen in the photos. It is a vague array of stars that appear "milky." The long exposures and Photoshop bring out details we can't see with or eyes. Will try again. Clive

Very good Clive. Thanks for sharing. I've taken photos of the milky way and couldn't see much until I adjusted them in Photoshop (mainly used levels). I thought it was just my inability to take good milky way photos.

Lovely images, Clive, and I too prefer the second because of the lovely richness of colour. But then again I do love the extra extent of the first. And I smile at how you say the Milky Way can be "seen easily on a clear night". Maybe where you live, but not for city boys like me, which makes this even more fascinating.

I smile at how you say the Milky Way can be "seen easily on a clear night". Gosh alexr even in our small town (and we live on the edge of town) the stars are far less obvious than at our summer place when there are no night lights other than a few solar yard lights and distant farm yard lights. For these photos, I had to get below a low hill to block the !&%!& flashing lights from !%$!%$#! bat and bird-killing wind turbines in the distance. I will definitely try this again. Perhaps there's a new fast, wide-angle prime lens in my future.
