Hi Everyone,
Concerned about the number of images submitted for the IOW challenge, our judges have been discussing/evaluating the current process and would like your input.
Let me start out by saying that the idea was never really to pick the “best” image. It was left up to the individual judge to establish their own criteria for a given week.
Judges may make their choices based on their individual bias for a creative technique, a preference for a particular kind of photography or to encourage a new member among other things.
These are some of the ways that have been suggested to deal with the current issue of limited submissions:
——— Go back to creating a weekly thread (may encourage members who have never created a gallery to submit. Easier than adding an image to the individual gallery. (The way IOW was originally introduced at PSE&M)
——— Move to a bi-weekly or monthly selection
——— Abandon the idea of IOW in favor of encouraging members to use the Show Your Work
board and receive comments on their work.
At the same time, judges wanted to point out the value that creating an Individual Gallery can serve a member who takes the time to go back and review their work.
This idea of self-reflection and evaluation is a valuable process and we encourage everyone to do that from time to time….wherever they store their images.
Finally it would be good to know if you like the idea of poll votes and members’ choice weeks.
So if you are a member here, it would be greatly appreciated if you would add your thoughts below. If you have never participated in IOW but find it to be an interesting feature of the forum we would like to hear from you as well.
