Again, thank you to everyone who posted an image in the forum and to everyone who has taken the time to look at shared images. So many interesting entries were submitted for the purpose of this humble image of the week (IOW) feature. I cruelly stick to my decision to not choose more than three images, two special mentions and one IOW. It so happens that one special mention and the IOW go to the same person. First, the special mentions and then, the image of the week.

We are in front of an extreme realism. So extreme that the image becomes surrealist. The popping colours, the precise definition of the boat and in the sky compared to the smooth sea and horizon, the way the light comes through the heavy blue clouds, and reflects in the sea and on the ramp, all give a sense of drama. I can’t help but think of Alex Colville’s work. I had to go back to his painting “To Prince Edward Island 1965”.

Fog can conjure different feelings, like ominous fear, awe and mystery. This image is more on the quiet introspective side. I like the subtle graduation of the light and how it slowly surrounds the tree. Between the white and the grey, the ground follows with smooth curved patterns. The foreground provides orientation and perspective. The composition is perfect. The image is in total balance. It conveys a true impression.

This is an image about a human activity, farming. Fine. This is an image about a farm where we find a typical American red barn. Fine. On one of its side, this typical American red barn bears an American flag. Most original; very fine. This is an image about patriotism. This is an image about boundary. All the farm buildings are shown as a whole, evoking a global system in which the importance of the flag remains. This is a strongly significant image. It was magnificently captured. The position of the sun has been considered. The image is correctly exposed and has been meticulously processed. The colours are sufficiently brilliant and contrasted to carry the message with conviction, while still reflecting an appropriate low profile vintage look.
