While in Lightroom 6.14, I want to open an image as a Smart Object in Elements Editor. I choose "Edit in..."/"Open as Smart Object in Photoshop...". Elements Editor opens, but after about a minute nothing happens. Then an error message pops up in Light Room, "File could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop Elements could not be launched." Well...Elements Editor did open/launch. Have you encountered this before and can anything be done to correct this? Thanks, Larry

Hi lk7631,
Just so I understand the problem, when you click on Open as Smart Object in Photoshop... (the ... stands for the full version of photoshop not elements) the image does not open in Photoshop Elements - correct?
The only way that I know to open an image in elements is to go into preference and make elements one of the external editors. That is the way that it worked when I tested it. The image opens in elements, however not as a smart object.

'Open as smart object' is a feature which is not available in Element'. There is a script in Elements+ to add this function:
The question is why do you want to open as a smart object in Elements? In Elements, the only usual situation where files are opened and later used as smart objects is when you have several files open and available in the photo bin; if you drag and drop a file on the active file, it is added as a 'smart layer'. The purpose is to enable you to work on the layer and modify it (resize, move, rotate...) without losing quality until you 'simplify' the layer.

Thanks to all who have responded here. I've been following another photographer's instructions on how to do High Pass Sharpening from LR to Photoshop. I was hoping that PSE would work the same as PS as far as opening a smart object. Looks like it's not specifically made to do so. I will look into allan's advice about Elemental Tool and see if that works. Larry
