If I'm up early enough I'll try in the morning......it's too dark, the moon is too high and it's freezing on my balcony!

Helen I am confused. Are you asking " Advice on Shooting the Beaver Moon" ? Lots of online suggestions. Gosh the usual stuff .. off the top of my head: - tripod
- long lens nice .. the moon is actually quite small even with a long lens
- manual focus ( pixel peaking and focus magnification is handy if you have it)
- a full moon is surprisingly bright and shutter speeds can be quite fast, but do some exposure tests
- even with a somewhat fast shutter speed, I use the 2-second delay instead of instant shooting .. could use a shutter release too
- I checked a recent moon shot and used 1/400 second, f8 and ISO 200 .. experiment.
- I've used AWB, but read that some like daylight or other WB settings ..
Hope that is what you were asking. Good luck.
Clive

Yes, that was what I was asking for. Have rarely gotten moon shots that I'm happy with and being I rarely even try it sends me into panic mode. I may try in the morning....still getting used to the Sony menu. I will want to get some of the landscape in the image not just the moon.....so even unsure of which lens to use. I appreciate your response Clive, thank you.

Clive's advice is spot on. I am always surprised at how fast of a shutter speed that is needed. I have to take many tries before I get one I almost like. Good luck, Helen, you will do fine!!!

Thanks, Judy. If I am up in time and I get one worth sharing I'll post it.

Helen I've taken a lot of photos of the moon and rarely pleased and it is the moon...almost impossible to get (say) cloud formations along with the moon because the moon is bright but surrounding clouds are not. You can take two or more shots and merge exposures. Since getting the new 24-mm, f1.4, taking moonlit scenery shots is more fun for me. But is compromised by town lights. I might go for a drive tonight...tried some moonlit scenes 2 nights ago. Meh. This was shot on Sept 14 at the summer place. Bright full moon. The clouds are call "stacked lenticular" clouds aka Chinook clouds (vs Chinook Arch). The Big Dipper is easy to see above the cloud...not enhanced. Clive Hummm..image as posted is not sharp....but the photo is sharp... link to another version.

Oh I'd be jumping for joy with that shot!

Wow, Clive that is spectacular. The cloud on the right looks like a lenticular cloud which are associated with very violent winds around them and usually found near mountain ridges.

Very nice Judy! She would probably like that but what I am hoping for, IF I'm up in time, is to include some landscape as well......high hopes for someone who doesn't know what they're doing!

HA! My plans to go for a drive and take an award-winning moonlighted scene were thwarted by a 90-minute Windows 10 meltdown and repair. (Machine was wonky > Shut down> Forced update that went sideways > Trouble shoot > Diagnosing blah blah blah....) After that, my demeanor also went sideways.
