I have PSE13, and use Levels quite a bit with some success. I used it on b/w images. In another website I'm getting help on improving my scan, and other users mention the Options feature in the Levels section. They're using the full version of PS, not PSE. Options allows you to fine tune the position of the triangles at the base of the histogram.
My question is, does a later version of PSE add the Options feature in Levels?
Thanks all!

I have PSE 13, PSE 15 and PSE 2020 and I'm afraid to say that the Levels are exactly the same in all three. No additional Options feature has been added.

Are they, for example, talking about fine tuning by identifying areas in your image that are being clipped? You may want to check this Adobe document about Levels adjustment in Photoshop; it will give you an idea of what the "big brother" can do. helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/levels-adjustment.htmlDepending on which Options feature they are talking about, it may be possible to do it in Elements with or without a workaround.

Thanks for that information, Billie Jean! And Sepiana... first, I've never seen Options! I'm only going by what other users say about it. What's interesting is that several said that they actually recommend moving those little black triangles into the histogram but just a bit. I was always careful to keep my triangles out of the histogram data. To help judge how far into the data is recommended these users would say just move it 0.1% . Problem is, .1% of what?! Since I don't have Options I can't answer that.

Hi Paul, I have PSE 14, but not the full PS version. In the PSE 13 PDF manual, accessible from this Adobe help page, you will find information regarding Levels Adjustments at page 66.

Paul, I am wondering if they are talking about keeping the Histogram panel open while making a Levels adjustment so that you can see what effect the changes are having on the color distribution of the image. If so, Elements offers this option. At the bottom of the Histogram panel there are some statistics. One of them is Percentile. This value is expressed as a percentage of all the pixels in the image -- 0% (far left) > 100% (far right). As you adjust the sliders in the Levels panel, the changes you make will be reflected as a percentage in the Histogram. Ex.: 0.1%, 0.2%, etc.

Paul I am a late arrival in the discussion about Options in Levels (in Elements) … so if I am repeating instructions, i apologize. Here is the way I access the Options in Levels. I am using PSE 2018. Open a Levels Adjustment Layer ( Layers>New Adjustment Layer>Levels or in the the Panel Bin — Create New Adjustment Layer>Levels)
With the Levels Adjustment Layer open, Hold down the Option/Alt key and click on Auto. The options window will now appear. That’s it…hopefully these are the options you are seeking. These same options are also available in Curves (Photoshop). A link for explanation of the options helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/making-quick-tonal-adjustments.html#set_auto_adjustment_options

I think I've got Pete's suggestion down. Here's a couple of screen shots - does my Captions pane show what it's supposed to? Can someone tell me what the various contents of the Options do and how I can then optimize the file for printing that is not flat? Thank you, Paul

Check the Adobe Help document PeteB posted the link to. It explains how to use Options.

Sepiana and PeteB, Do you remember this thread? Today I needed this feature and wasn't sure I could recollect it. Lo and behold, I was able to remember how to get to Alt-Auto to get a histogram with some punch. Cheers, Paul
