A while ago I purchased a travel tripod that included a panorama control with a small circular bubble level attached to the ball head. Recently I used this tripod to capture a 10 exposure panorama. I was shocked by the poor results when stitching the images together.
#1 - a level on a ball head is pretty much useless and only good for a single position #2 - the level on my ball head is off by about 10 degrees

I have switched from ball head to a fluid head system and never going back. Once it is level - it is level for panoramas and everything else. I've followed Hudson Henry on this and one of his videos (he has many on fluid heads!) www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1h8YrcjtjY gives some excellent background on why he likes fluid heads. He also has a recommended list of what parts you need especially if you are starting from scratch (which I did) and that list can be found here: www.hudsonhenry.com/ats-list/#support~bruce.
