What is the difference between the Point Sample and the Average setting of the Color Picker tool (formerly called the Eyedropper tool)? How are these settings to be used?
Answer:
The Point Sample setting is the default for this tool. When you use this setting, the Color Picker tool selects the exact pixel you click on.
When you select the 3-pixel square Average (3x3) or the 5-pixel square Average (5x5) setting, this tool samples this block of pixels and then averages them. These two Average settings work really well when there is some pixel-to-pixel variation in a given color.
