On occasion we see armchairs or sofas on the side of the road. In this case, I am guessing it fell of the back of an unsecured load...maybe someone moved it off the traffic lane to the roadside. I don't know. Coaldale (the RR town sign is behind the chair), January 5 2020.

The funniest 'chair sighting' I had was in a college town on move out day after school ended. The students would pile their furniture at the curb and other students would pick it up for their next year's apartments. Great way to recycle.
This chair looks too nice to be a discard, so I'm thinking like you - it fell off some load and the people did not notice. Boy, are they going to be surprised when they get to their destination.

Or, it may have been placed there on purpose - for hitch hikers to sit on whilst thumbing a lift. Good Endless Possibilities challenge, Clive.
