Well, you will have to watch a TV show to see them ... I don't watch TV other than the evening news, but recently have been watching a show my wife has been recording. We get PBS Spokane as it serves Alberta as well. They have a current series called " Country Music" www.pbs.org/kenburns/country-music/ It is a multi-series history of roots/country music in the USA. It is well written and very enlightening even if you don't like old country/roots music. Many of the black and white photos shown are so good.. so good. Touching. Well composed. Lovely tones. They ooze sentiment. The promo photos on the webpage show stars, but the good photos are of the people in the 20s and 30s and later...the hillbillies and Okies and share croppers...the poverty-stricken unemployed in the 30s. The hardships. Amazing pictures and some just break your heart. Yes, it is American and I am Canadian, but my grandparents were poor dirt farmers in Alberta in the early 1900s too ... same stories, just colder here. If you get PBS it is worth watching as it is a most entertaining story ... and the old photos are great. Clive

Good review but you forgot to mention this is simply the latest product of Ken Burns and associates. He has been producing documentaries since the middle '70's! Hope you get to watch more of Mr. Ken Burns projects. He is one of the best examples of what America can produce! He has brought quality TV to America so we don't have to depend on BBC and Canada! He even has an 'movie' effect named after him! Many of his images are from stills from historical archives. Making a 'movie' from still images can be a bit boring! He is credited with developing the "Ken Burns Effect": slowly zooming in (or out) while changing the 'subject' of the picture all at the same time. First time I saw the name was in the first version of iMovie, but I think it is also used in Keynote.

Thanks xairbusdriverWe only watched it on TV. We get that "wrong country" notice on occasion whippet and Sydney. I was struck by the old photos of the rural and urban people in the 20s and 30s. Hard times. Young folks today would sure have bad time if the were dumped into those poverty situations. Bring new meaning to "triggered," eh?
