In the editor, when I go to " SAVE AS" the box " save in version set with original" is greyed out. Is there a reason for this, or have I some how turned it off.

It is greyed out until you check the 'Include in the Elements Organiser' box....or are you saying it's still greyed out even with that box checked?

Yes Bayla, that is correct. I have the organizer box checked but the version set box is still grey. I do not have a clue as to the problem.

Sca= I have the organizer box checked but the version set box is still grey. Schaf,
There have been several reports of this happening. The causes for it seem to be as varied as the fixes. I don't really have an answer but I do have questions.
-- When did this problem begin? -- Is it specific to a certain file format, ex., JPEG? -- How did you get the file to the Editor? Via the Organizer? Or just via the Editor? - Did you check your catalog to make sure there are no problems such as missing files? Did you do Repair/Optimization? -- How do you launch Elements? From a standard account or with administrator's privileges?
NOTE: Here is the reason for my last question. I believe you have Elements 13 on Windows 7. I have noticed Elements 13 developing a few glitches here and there which are easily solved by right-clicking on the shortcut and selecting "Run as administrator". You do it just once and then go back to launch this program as a standard user.

Hi Sepiana, Thanks for your help, to answer your questions.
1. Over last few weeks
2. Yes JPEG
3. Via the Editor
4. There are greyed out squares in organizer. Do not know where to find Repair/ Optimization
5 .Launch by double clicking short cut . Did try your suggestion of right click short cut and ran Administrator's privileges.
No 5 did not work. Version sets still greyed out, but now system is very slow. Now when I click a command it takes a couple of seconds or three to respond.

Schaf, Thanks for the answers! I am going to focus on your answer to question #4. I have an inkling the culprit can be found here. However, I may be wrong; I am not an Organizer expert. 4. There are greyed out squares in organizer. Do not know where to find Repair/ Optimization Here are Adobe instructions how to optimize the catalog, rebuild the thumbnail cache, and repair the catalog.

Back again Sepiana, I have now done the repair/ optimization as you recommended and the Version sets box is still greyed out, although I have now regained my speed. I may just ignore version sets and get on with it.
Many Thanks Schaf

Schaf,
I don't really know what is happening. Did you already try deleting the Preferences file? I forgot to ask this.

What is the Preferences file Sepiana. Schaf,
The Preferences file is where Elements keeps track of your preferred settings. When you delete this file, Elements will automatically generate a replacement file. The only downside is that the replacement file will have the settings back to the default. This means that you will have to redo any changes you made. For example, if you have rearranged the panels, you will have to do it again because they will be back to their original (default) positions.
According to the Help file . . .
Starting with Elements 11 Adobe made it much easier to delete the Preferences file. NOTE: Elements has two separate Preferences file, one for the Organizer and one for the Editor.
EDITOR:
Go to Edit>Preferences>General (Adobe Photoshop Elements Editor>Preferences> . . . on a Mac). Click on the "Reset Preferences on next launch" button. Ignore the "This cannot be undone." warning and click OK. Close Elements and then start it again.
ORGANIZER:
Go to Edit>Preferences>General (Elements Organizer>Preferences> . . . on a Mac). Click on the "Restore Default Settings" button.
I would suggest deleting the Editor's Preferences file. This is the file which gets corrupted easily. This is much less common with the Organizer's Preferences file.

Hi Sepiana, Have not done the preference file, but version sets seems to be working. After I completed the repair/ optimize, I went straight to a test run without closing down first and there was no change. After a close down and reopen I had a active Version set. I take things are OK, when I go "save as" as a jpeg it is greyed out , when "save as " as a PSD file it is active. Is that the way things work.
Many Thanks Schaf

Many Thanks Schaf Schaf,
It is great to hear you got it to work. Unfortunately, it should work also for JPEG files. Something is not right here.
I would suggest you try deleting the Editor's Preferences file. This is the usual recommendation when Elements "misbehaves". If this doesn't solve the problem, I strongly recommend you contact Adobe.
