If like me, you are still using LR 6 then you may experience problems using right click/edit in PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe. Lightroom may hang with an error message and a 2 minute delay before the file is finally opened in PS Elements.
Evidently, LR6 only has this problem with 64 bit versions of PS Elements. The problem is related to the specific name "PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe". Its probably caused by some recent windows updates. Possibly, "Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 version 1809" (KB 4516115).
So far a fix has not been found but here are some suggested work-arounds.*
Work-around 1- If you have an earlier 32 bit version of PS Elements (eg PSE 6, 7, 8, 9) you can set it as your secondary editor. Lightroom can send edits there without any problems. Then close the file and reopen using your preferred 64 bit version of PSE (eg PSE 2019 or 2020) to continue editing.
Work-around 2- Download and install the Lightroom "Elemental" Plug in. You can open raw files from LR6 as PSE files in PSE 2020. The drawback is that these PSD files are not included in the LR catalogue. You would have to manually add them to the catalogue later. Instructions in the first link at the bottom of the page.
Workaround 3- Choose any other secondary editor (Eg the free Nik filters) to edit in Lightroom and configure the settings to edit as PSD. Then later open PSE 2020 to continue editing. The good thing is that this method includes the PSD files in the LR catalogue.
Work-around 4- Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020 (or whatever 64 bit version you have). Copy the file "PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe" to your desktop and rename to "PSE 2020.exe" or whatever. Copy the file back into the original folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020. Configure LR6 to open with "PSE 2020" as a secondary editor. This method might work for you. However some plug ins might not load properly.
Work-around 5- IN LR6 Export the raw files as PSD. Then manually open in PSE 2020 or whatever version you have.
I hope this information will be useful to someone.
Kind regards
Chris
