I am trying to install the free version of the Nik collection in PSE 2020 but only 3 parts have loaded Analog Efect Pro 2, Color Efect Pro 4 and Viveza 2. On opening PSE I get the message one or more plug-ins are currently not available on your system. For details see Help – System Info.
See below info. from System Info. Any help in resolving this matter would be appreciated.
I am running on Windows 10
Plug-ins that failed to load:
BackgroundFilter NO VERSION - - from the file “Background.8bf”
Dfine 2 NO VERSION - - from the file “Dfine2.8bf”
Sharpener Pro 3: (1) RAW Presharpener NO VERSION - - from the file “SHP3RPS.8bf”
Sharpener Pro 3: (2) Output Sharpener NO VERSION - - from the file “SHP3OS.8bf”
Silver Efex Pro 2 NO VERSION - - from the file “Silver Efex Pro 2.8bf”

Hi stan,
Let's try the usual troubleshooting suggestions for the kind of problem you describe.
- Go to the Plug-Ins folder in PSE 2020. - Open the Nik Collection folder. - Is there an .8bf file inside the individual folders for each of the problem plug-ins?
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\ . . .
If your answer is No, let's try a manual installation.
- Go to the Nik Collection folder. - Copy the needed .8bf files. - Paste them in the appropriate Nik folder within the Plug-Ins folder in PSE 2020.
C:\Program Files\ . . .

Dear Sepiana,
Many thanks for such a prompt reply with guidance.
There is a .8bf file inside each of the individual folders for each of the problem plug-ins?

Hi stan,
From your response, I understood there was no problem with the .8bf files. They were in the Nik individual folders in the Plug-Ins folder within PSE to begin with.
For our next troubleshooting step, I would recommend uninstalling the Nik Collection. Do it from the the Windows Control Panel and make sure PSE is closed. Then, reinstall it while keeping PSE closed.

Dear Sepiana,
Many thanks again for guidance. I uninstalled Nik Collection and then reinstalled but sadly things have not changed. One other factor may be that I have PSE ver 15 installed as well and the Nik Collection works fine in it! My Program files are in my C drive and my data on the E drive.

stan, Sad news indeed. However, do not give up! I am a firm believer in leaving no stone unturned when doing troubleshooting. You just provided one more stone to be turned, i.e., one more variable to be tested. One other factor may be that I have PSE ver 15 installed as well and the Nik Collection works fine in it! My Program files are in my C drive and my data on the E drive. Having the Nik Collection installed in two PSE versions should not be a problem; each version is independent. At one time or another I had it installed in all my PSE versions. (See my signature.) When I upgraded from PSE 2019 to PSE 2020, I didn't run the Nik Collection installer. I just did a copy/paste job from one Plug-Ins folder to the other. Let's see if this route will work for you! Both PSE 15 and PSE 2020 are 64-bit apps; plug-in incompatibility should not play a role here. NOTE: Make sure neither PSE version is open while you do this copy/paste job. 1 . Go to the PSE 2020 Plug-Ins folder and delete the Nik Collection folder. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\ . . . 2 . Go to the PSE 15 Plug-Ins folder and copy the Nik Collection folder. C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 15\Plug-Ins\ . . . 3 . Paste the Nik Collection folder in the PSE 2020 Plug-Ins folder C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\ . . .

Dear Sepiana,
Thanks again for sticking with it.
1. I went to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\ . . . Within that was a folder Google & within that was the plug ins!! (Analog Efex Pro 2, Color Efex Pro 4, Define 2, Selective 2, Sharpener Pro 2, Silver Efex Pro 2, Viveza 2) In addition there was a file, outwith the folder, pse_folder_plugin.ico. I deleted them all.
2. I went to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 15\Plug-Ins\ . . . Within that was a folder Google & within that was the plug ins!! I copied then all into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\ not Google, up came a folder Sharpen Pro 3 then a pop up menu appeared “Destination folder access denied – Copying 29 items from Google to Plug-ins interrupted 0% complete. I shut down pop up menu.
As this did not work I then copied same files into into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\Google
Opened PSE 2020 & only Analog Efex Pro 2, Color Efex Pro 4 & Viveza 2 were there!!

stan,
I'm trying to understand what happened, how you did this copy/paste job. Please, correct me if I'm not getting it.
First of all, the pse_folder_plugin.ico file is not part of the Nik Collection; it is a PSE file. Therefore, it shouldn't be deleted. But don't worry! It can be put back. I tested the "fix" below and it worked.
1. Copy the .ico file in PSE 2020 Plug-Ins folder.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\pse_folder_plugin.ico
2. Paste it in PSE 15 Plug-Ins folder.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 15\Plug-Ins\pse_folder_plugin.ico
Now here is where I am confused. So, please bear with me! . . .
- Did you copy/paste the Google folder or did you just copy/paste its contents?
If you just copied/pasted its contents, let's try this . . .
1. Delete the Google folder in PSE 2020 Plug-Ins folder.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\Google
2. Copy the Google folder in PSE 15 Plug-Ins folder.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 15\Plug-Ins\Google
3. Paste the Google folder in PSE 2020 Plug-Ins folder.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\Google

Dear Sepiana,
Thanks again for help.
pse_folder_plugin.ico file Further to your comments I checked Plug-ins folder in both:- C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 15\Plug-Ins\ C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins\ and this file was in both.
copy/paste the Google folder. I copied & then pasted folder.

stan, thanks for the clarification! I had indeed misunderstood your earlier reply. Unfortunately it looks like this problem continues. Reinstalling the Nik Collection didn’t work; neither did the copy/paste job. Opened PSE 2020 & only Analog Efex Pro 2, Color Efex Pro 4 & Viveza 2 were there!! I have to admit that I’m baffled and also running out of options. At this point, I can only suggest . . . Use the Nik Collection plug-in installed in PSE 15 as it works just fine there. Post on the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum. They have more resources available, for example, they could remote access your computer if they think the culprit is PSE 2020 and not Nik. Adobe Photoshop Elements ForumGoogle is out of the picture. The Nik Collection is now available through DxO. Unfortunately, it is for purchase only and they no longer offer support for the free version. Nik Collection by DxOHowever, you may want to contact DxO and see if they would at least explain what is causing the problems you described in your OP. Submit a request

Dear Sepiana Just an update on my problem with the plugins.
After some trial and error I have got the plugins to work in PSE 2020 at last. What I had to do was go to the NIK Collection folder within the Google Folder in my Program Files and copy and paste that into the Plugins in PSE 2020. The files showed up in PSE 2020 but still didn’t run properly giving the message I got before about one or more plugins not being currently available. Following information I got from Greig_S on the Adobe forum I opened PSE and went to Edit, Preferences, Plugins and put a check in the Additional Plug-Ins Folder and then browsed to C:\Program Files\Google\NIK Collection and clicked OK and that has worked for me.
Thank you for pointing me to the Adobe Forum.
