ProBoards (our host) uses the ads you see as a means for generating revenue. If you click on an ad and make a purchase, ProBoards may earn some revenue from that purchase. ProBoards is very diligent and responsive about ads that misbehave, as they jeopardize their revenue; they act swiftly to eliminate any such ads that are reported. That very thing happened recently and we are quite grateful for their rapid squelching of those ads.
Unfortunately, services beyond the control of ProBoards (such as imgbb.com) can and do try to redirect your focus to other sites. We have found that some Ad Blockers can "inoculate" you from those efforts.
Because of the lack of reported instances of redirections here, we became curious about which, if any, Ad Blockers you use, hence this poll! This is all in fun, intended to get better acquainted with our members.

I use AdBlock plus but have it turned off for our forum. I haven't had a problem on our site using Chrome on a Mac.

I'm the same as Helen. I have AdBlock Plus but have it turned off for our forum and have never had a problem using Firefox.

I use AdBlockPlus now, but I did not know of ProBoards policy until very recently. I've not found its use to be a hindrance in viewing the site. So, I'm not sure what ads I've missed seeing. However, I literally can't remember ever buying anything (web nor newspaper/magazine/billboard/etc.) because of seeing an ad! Maybe that's just because the things I've bought have ads that work subconsciously!

I know, right?! We see ads every day, all day long, so someone does respond to them, or at least ad-men think they do. Anyway, I am a sample of size one, so not at all useful for understanding what the larger population does.

McAfee constantly blocks "risky connections".

I use Ghostery (www.ghostery.com) which is a free browser extension. It blocks trackers of all kinds and many ads.

I have had ublock origin on all of my browsers for quite some time and just let it do it's thing. I am not easily influenced anyway and very seldom make a purchase from any sort of ad, be it on the computer, the TV, or whatever. As a general rule, the sort of things I am interested in are never advertised anyway. I never could afford the latest and greatest; I always have to wait until something becomes "obsolete" before I can buy it.

I use uBlock Origin. I know sites make revenue from ads but I've always been a bit wary of them. Advertisements can sometimes be obtrusive but not only that, they can also be used to inject malware. I most often prefer to block them for the latter reason. This might be over-cautious for this day and age as I think browsers are perhaps not so vulnerable to malware attacks as they once were. Also Windows itself has better protections in later operating systems.
Also, if other browser extensions are installed, these give protection too and it may not be as necessary use an ad-blocker as malware protection. Just have to get used to seeing an advert or two if the ad-blocker is turned off for a site, which I have just done for this one.
