Members submitting an image for this challenge are asked to offer a brief statement as to why they chose their image. Participants in the challenge have the option of presenting an edit with the photographer’s reasons in mind or instead presenting an image that reflects their own creative vision. The member submitting this image had this to say about it: " Getting ice to look like ice is always a bit of a challenge and even harder with this one because of the sand mixed in from an earlier storm. Also there are likely several ways this could be cropped to improve the image." 1. Participants in the challenge are asked to provide a screenshot of their edits within the RAW converter of their choice along with the reasons for their edits. 2. Following their initial edits members may use whatever “tools" they wish to create an image that portrays their artistic vision for the image as long as the character of the original image is not lost. 3. Including information on plug-ins, actions, external editors, textures, sky replacements etc that were used will only help to inform members of some of the creative options that are available to today’s photographer. 4. Including layer stacks may be something to consider when presenting a final edit. You have two weeks to participate in this challenge. It ends on April 4th. At the end of the challenge the image creator will select their three favorite edits. Comments are restricted to complimenting another member's edit. You can download the dng file here. Here is a screen shot of the image we will be working on. Looking forward to seeing how you edit this image.

There is something amiss with the link you have provided Helen. It just takes me to another copy of this page?

Thanks for letting me know, Lillias. Don't know why that happens here occasionally. Will try again.

Processed in Luminar 4 to replace the sky, add birds, remove building, crop and used a Twilight pop 2 preset for adjustments. Finished in TS2 custom painting preset at 40% opacity.

Reading the photographer's comment I wanted to see if I could could come up with a way to whiten the snow. I only did minor adjustments in Camera RAW: In PS CC: 1. I created a blank layer and filled it with 50% grey and changed the blend mode to overlay. 2. I then created a new blank layer, filled it with white, clipped it to the overlay layer and reduced the opacity. 3. I now had a new layer with whitened snow that I placed above the original. I added a mask and brought back the sky, water and part of the reflection from the original. 4. I created a composite layer. There was one area on the bottom left that had a bluish tint. 5. On a new blank layer I cloned a section of the whitened snow over the blue area. All of these things could have been done in PE as well. Here is my completed image.

Opened in Camera Raw in PSE. First picture is the result and the settings I used. Took that result into the NIK Collection Silver Efex Pro 2 and applied the Preset 036 Antique Plate ll Back in PSE placed a radial gradient overlay for the second result.
