These are a couple shots of a Monarch butterfly emerging from the chrysalis is has been in metamorphosis (developing from a caterpillar into a beautiful Monarch butterfly) for 10 days. It's part of the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly. The Monarch is the only butterfly that migrates from Mexico & California all the way to Canada and back every year. Is there any one out there who is interested in Monarch raising? Let's start a chat going. TB

Great pictures, and interesting facts. When we visited our local Butterfly World, there were a lot of chrysalises in a heated unit. They hadn't got to this stage though.

I had a heck of a time logging in and my PSE is working slow. The pc is a mess too. But I'd like to add a couple more monarch larva images. The tinyist one is on the red blossom. That's how small it is and why I search for it every day. Sorry they are blurry, I'm a bit shaky. They are still in my 'nursery' till they are big enough not to get lost. I replace leaves every day and key moisture in there so they don't wither. TB

What kind of leaves/food are you feeding the caterpillars?

Milkweed is the only plant the caterpillars will eat. I does have many varieties and blooms at different times in different zones to provide place to lay eggs heading northward and for the resulting caterpillars to feed on to become Monarchs and fly further northward. Monarchs are the only butterfly that migrates north to CN and in the fall the 5th generation migrates back to CA or MX for the winter. Please ask anything else you are interested in. Thanks, TB

Thanks TB. Interesting stuff. A few Monarchs show up here in summer but few. Clive

I didn't get back to the field I found these in, but you will be happy to know there were many of them. Hope they all turned into butterflies! i.ibb.co/QvLqMsD/DSC-4888.jpg
