Have a feeling I'm probably not the only one who is getting their days confused these days. The new challenge is meant to be posted on the first Thursday of the month. Since I have been working on getting it wrapped up for today, I'm going to post a day early. I loved this post on Women Reading that was shared on FB. I know if you're not on FB you won't be able to see it and if you are you will need to be logged in. But for those who are I thought I'd add the link anyway. It gave me the idea for this month's theme. To give you some ideas for this challenge here are two links from Flickr that you might enjoy browsing. Books and people reading. Here are two images from my archives. The second one is a tight crop of a larger image. Hate it when I come home from a "shoot" and see things that I wish I would have seen at the time.   Both of the above were converted to B/W in NIK SE 2 and then further edited in LR using a split tone. To get myself started on this theme I took this picture this morning. I edited first using the monochrome setting in LR and liked it right off the bat. Nothing else done. The second one was using a preset from David duChemin as a result of taking an online course with him on LR (I think). Which do you prefer?   |

Helen Thanks for the challenge. It was a toss up between your two photos of the stacked books. The lower one had a bit more pop, but had a slight color tinge to it. Nice composition. Well this was a spur-of-the-moment snapshot and not arty like your examples and Frank's cool photo. I walked into into our bedroom last night and Willie's (wife) current book was on the quilt on our bed. I recalled the challenge, got my camera and took one photo of the book as is with no rearranging. The only thing I did was turn on the reading lights. This was shot at ISO 3,200. The book cover has a semi-camo design and sort of blends into the quilt so there is no "pop" here.  |

Nice snap, the cover design mimics the quilt design. Your quick snaps are better than my huge efforts.

Seeing your image my first thought was the same as Judy's.....how the design of the cover seems to work with the quilt.

It's not often that you can stand in the middle of a main street to take a panorama without getting run over but no problem these days so here's a photo taken today of our local library which is closed for the duration. Two shots stitched together and converted to B&W with a Lightroom profile. Full of real books as well as a photo display that our camera club put together just before shutdown but fortunately it does have a good eLibrary .  Tony |

Took this picture today.....started out with a preset from DBW black and white film pack. I wanted the recipe page in focus and the rest of the image out of focus....couldn't get what I wanted in camera so ended up using filters in NKI CE to create the effect.  |

My great grandfather in his Sunday suit reading the Bible. He worked hard as a farmer all his life. They lived a simple life, were very happy, and had all they needed. I especially like the mud spatter on his pant legs. i.ibb.co/ZWSwgQv/Reading.jpg |

What a special share, Karen. There are so many interesting details in this old picture.....aside from what you already pointed out, I find myself noticing the dresser, the partially opened drawer, the wood floor, the door and doorknob behind him, his clothes and particularly for this challenge the bible.
It appears to have a leather cover with well worn pages....a book that might have been passed down to him.

I've been looking for someone reading for the whole month now and have come up empty. So I'll go with a fallback shot I took last Sunday. BW conversion in Camera Raw.   |
