I used the “like” button to show my appreciation of member participation as well as to indicate things I thought were inspiring, well done, or showed progress. And so I continued down this path until now. I know I'm a bit late to this party (about 2 years!), but I think Helen has hit on something that kinda bothers me, as well. I click 'like' way too often (especially on Facebook) and need to break that habit. I think I need to be a bit more selective. While I really do like most everything to some degree, and can at least appreciate the effort that goes into the creation of the final images, I need to narrow my 'likes' down to photos that WOW me (or at least wow me). Something to strive for.

well the last two years have been like standing still in a time capsule, so I would say that your comment is right on time! ...and Helen, as this has circled back to you, it would be interesting to know if you have made progress with the way you use the like button?
I only use 'Like' when something appeals to me. I recently went through my Flickr site and removed most of the images I have "Faved", only keeping the ones that taught me something about good photographic images, or that I thought were captivating.

I never use the like button. In fact, I don’t even know how to "like" something. I try and respond in a post to those things that interest me because I “like” when someone takes the time to post a response to my stuff. In fact, when I make a layout that I do not post, I miss the feedback on my work - takes a little of the fun out of creating.

I imagine this is going to be a hard habit to break. well the last two years have been like standing still in a time capsule, so I would say that your comment is right on time! ...and Helen, as this has circled back to you, it would be interesting to know if you have made progress with the way you use the like button? Laughing.....yes it didn't take me long to fall of that train....looking back I think I lasted until about November. I have reverted to my old ways which I am more comfortable with. I often will comment along with a "Like". VickiD ........it isn't easy joining a new forum especially one where people have a long history together. I appreciate your efforts to contribute. You will soon learn that we are a pretty accepting group and hopefully it won't take you long to "feel at home". So do whatever you are most comfortable doing and enjoy our little community.

I still have the same problem after all this time. Do I press 'like' because it is to my taste, and I really do like it. Or - do I press 'like' because I appreciate what a person has done, but don't like it personally. Tis a puzzlement.

I press the "like" button because I like it (regardless of the reasons), and I don't stress over it anymore.

Since we only have the one button, I think it is good, like or not, to "Like" a post just to let the poster know that you have took the time and showed the interest to see what they have posted, whether you actually like it or not, so the poster won't be wondering "I wonder if so-and-so has seen this yet"
Although, I had much rather get a typed comment.
