I would love to have the ability to do a mirror clone in PSE 2020. Is this possible? Evidently this can be done in the full PS. I have searched in vain for a solution with PSE. What I want is is that the source of the clone can be mirrored or flipped horizontally or vertically before pasting to the destination. This would be useful for example to clone a right eye to the left eye etc*. Your advice would be appreciated.

* I know that objects can be flipped under Image/Flip layer horizontally. But it would be nice to be able to do this with the clone tool.

One possible way would be to duplicate the image and flip the duplicate. Then on the original image, using the canvas size feature, double the width or height making sure the image is offset to the left or right before doubling the size. Then paste in the reverse duplicate image. Clone what you want and then crop the image back to the original size. Make sense? Clive Crude example ...  |

Chris, As far as I know, this is not possible in PSE; this program doesn't have the Clone Source option, which allows for mirroring the Clone Stamp tool (flipping horizontally or vertically). A user of PSE 2018, Raggsydoll, posted a similar question on the Adobe forums. Michael Bullo, an Adobe Community Professional, suggested a possible workaround which involves copying, flipping, and masking the area you are cloning from. (Scroll down to the 4th post in the thread; ignore the part about the Clone Source option in PS.) Mirror with Clone Tool
NOTE: I also have PSE 2020. I tried Michael's suggestion; it works. |

Thank you Clive and Sepiana for those very useful work-arounds. I will experiment with them. It seems that there is no option in PSE 2020 to flip the clone source. I assume the screenshot posted by Michael Bullo is for the full PS. In my clone options panel there are boxes that say flip X and flip Y but they appear to make no difference to the result. I have no idea what they are for. Kind regards Chris  |

Thank you very much Sepiana for the information and the link. I probably didn't notice any changes with those settings because I generally use uniform round brushes. I expect that With a custom brush I would expect see the changes.

Chris, you are most welcome! Glad to help.
It can get confusing because the Clone Stamp and the Brush tool in PSE don't have the same bells and whistles as their PS counterpart.
