Hi guys,
I'm hopingm that someone can offer some help or adive regarding a problem that has only just started.
I bought a new PC about 4 months ago which runs Windows 10, and having read / been told it would need at least Elements 14 to work on it I bought a new copy and loaded it. This has worked fine right up to about a week ago. What happens is this.
I am a jpeg shooter but open my pics with 'in camera raw' I belive it's called.
So Elements will open, let me open a photo and work on itwith no problem, then when I click the 'open image' tab so I can work on the pic further to maybe crop or resize it, the pic disapears having not been saved and Elements is frozen on the pc and will not close and with my being unable to do anything Im have to restart the pc before it will 'un freeze'.
I hope some of this makes sense :-)
If any of you have any suggestions on how to fix this, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks guys,, Roland

Sorry for your problem. Welcome here. What happens when you open the jpegs directly into PSE vs through Adobe Camera Raw? You can drag and drop jogs directly into an open PSE or can use the "open" button. Clive

Hi Roland, welcome to PSE&M! Glad to have you here. For starters, . . . I also have Elements 14 installed on Windows 10 (on two computers). No incompatibility problems! I'm not sure what is causing the problem you describe but, as your copy of Elements 14 was working just fine before, I'm inclined to steer the troubleshooting in this direction. According to the Help file, Go to Edit>Preferences>General. Click on the "Reset Preferences on next launch" button. Ignore the "This cannot be undone." warning and click OK. Close Elements and then start it again. Hopefully this will solve the problem! If not, there are other variables we can look into.

Clive Hi Clive, thank you for the reply,, I've had another 'play' and if I simply try to 'open' a jpeg pic, it opens with no problem and I can work on it, save it and then close Elements if I so wish. The problem seems to be when I open the pic as a RAW, everything then stops working. I have been told as well that the RAW side of Elements had an 'update' some time ago and I may need to try that, which I will do later. The other thing I've been told about is that if I only shoot jpeg's, then download and use GIMP, it's easier to use and it's FREE,,,,,

Roland, that's not good news! I respect your decision to say good-bye to Elements but I have to ask. (I'm curious!)
- How did this ACR update take place? - Did you go to Help>Updates to install it? - If not, where did you get the Camera Raw.8bi file? - What went wrong?

Hi Sepiana,
The notice for the update was on the Elememts screen when I turned it on, I could either do it 'now' or later,, I ticked later, started to do a photo, then the update started and blocked the screen,, once it had finished it allowed me to continue to edit the jpeg pic in 'in camera RAW' but once I'd finished and then clicked on the image as normal to 'open up the image' so I could crop it slightly, it did eactilly the same as last time.
Pic went off the screen, Elements froze, pc wouldn't do anything till I turned it off and restarted it,,, so it's time I think for something else, going to download GIMP today and try that,, it's FREE,,,,

Hi Roland, thanks so much for satisfying my curiosity! I may be wrong but I think this is the reason why the problem you described in your OP came back. You had solved it by uninstalling/reinstalling PSE 14. When you reinstalled it, the Adobe Application Manager noticed you were using PSE 14 as it was previously released in September 2015 and alerted you there was an update. Unfortunately, this update brought the problem back. Here is a long shot in the dark; it may get rid of the problem (or it may not). If you can live without this update, . . . - Uninstall/reinstall PSE 14. - When the Updates notice pops up, click on the Preferences button, - Turn off "Notify me of new updates on the menu bar".- Click on the OK button. NOTE: If the Updates notice doesn't pop up, go to Help>Updates on the top menu bar to bring it up.

Thanks again for the reply and all your help and advice,, it may be of not much use now anyway,,
I reinstalled PSE 14 and got it working, sat and PP'd all the photos I took from my recent day out,, tried to posy some on flickr only to find,,, it looks like flickr has deleted my account. I've emailed them but if it is so, then that's me finished with photograghy,, really not going to start all over again.
