This is why I shoot RAW exclusively. Photo taken with Canon 6D Mark II and EF -70-200 f4 L IS w/ 1.4xII extender, at full telephoto (280mm). Getting any closer to a pronghorn antelope is next to impossible. This is the original RAW image, converted to jpeg with no editing: I imported into Lightroom, then first did very slight noise reduction in Topaz Denoise AI. Then cropped and processed in Lightroom for contrast and basic adjustments. Finished in Topaz Sharpen AI. I can't imagine getting this result from that original if I hadn't used RAW for the capture.

That's quite impressive for such a tight crop, Rick. TFS!

It really is pretty remarkable what can be done these days. I often surprise myself.

Sooo you encouraged me to give this a try, Rick. When looking for animals for the Black and White Challenge I came across this bison from a trip to the Tetons a few years ago. Shot with a Canon 24-105 at f11, 1/200, ISO 200 Here's my before: and after:
Looking at yours again I guess I should have cropped a little tighter.
Not quite as good as yours but not too bad.

I've always shot RAW and am always impressed when going back to images over 10 years old how much better current software handles them. Remember that old Auto button in Camera Raw and Lightroom. It was awful. Now I always try it first and 9 times out of 10 it works well. Tony PS - Wow - I've aged - I'm now a Senior

Not quite as good as yours but not too bad. You do at least have some background to work with to possibly make it a landscape photo with a bison on it. I took the one above last summer, shortly after I got my new 6D Mark II camera, and was just seeing how it did with my 70-200 lens and 1.4x extender on it, 280mm total reach. I never got a really acceptable edit on it until this week after I bought the 2 Topaz AI plug-ins.

I haven't gotten AI sharpen but I have heard good things about it. I love Gigapixel!

Hi preeb and all. Thanks for this post. I always shoot raw and done so for about 10 years, but shot jpg exclusively for a number of years. In another thread I am going to post some raw and jpg comparisons using a full-frame camera. Clive
