Not sure where to start. Simply, last night was surreal. The Old House at Cowley, Neowise Comet, Noctilucent Clouds and Northern Lights! Noctilucent clouds are now a "thing" and there are a lot this year. (You can Google them.) It was dark but seems lighter in the photo because of the long exposure. The house was "painted" with a flashlight to brighten it up. The noctilucent clouds (pale waves on horizon) were already visible by about 10:30 PM. Then I went to take a snapshot of the old house and the comet at 11:30 PM last night. The northern lights showed up just before midnight. Was very neat to see it all together. (I belong to an aurora FB group and it is on fire with posts from last night!) The photo was taken around midnight, July 13. I will never see this again! (Unless there's a repeat tonight! )

Thank you Lillias. It was very special and something I will always remember... I feel quite blessed. I would have been pleased with the old house and the comet. The blogosphere is abuzz with chatter and a gazillion photos. It could repeat tonight as the astro-atmospheric gurus say we could see aurora again tonight..always a crap shoot. One of my photos also showed a faint band of STEVE (Google it)... so it was a quad whammy: aurora, STEVE, noctilucent clouds and the comet. Just wow!

This is fabulous. I've never seen anything like it. Where I live the night sky is simply blown out by the huge glow of Los Angeles.

I can only imagine how excited you were. To have it all visible at once is quite an experience....and then with the old house in the foreground....Stellar image for sure!

What - no lunar eclipse ;^) Needless to say that's an AMAZING shot worth staying up late to capture!

Thank you everyone. It was wonderful to see. Rita, thankfully we are far form the city but some of the orange horizon glow is from Calgary about 100 miles (160 km) away. Clear skies again but some haze. I shoulda had a nap this afternoon, but determined to stay up again. Thanks all! Clive

HA HA! It was close to a full house last night. A meteor (shooting star) would have been nice. I would have been pleased just to see the comet and house. The weird clouds and northern lights a huge bonus. Jacki .. I first saw STEVE 2 years ago. It is similar to aurora but technically quite different and they display differently. Another old guy at the summer place has an 8-inch Celestron telescope on a star tracker device. Going to see it in awhile before heading back out to the old house. I really should not stay up until 2 or 3 AM again! Clive

That old house has certainly been lucky for you, Clive. I too, thank you for sharing that wonderful sight.
When Hale-Bopp was on it's travels, I went outdoors every night to watch it. I was saddened when it finally left us.
