I checked and it was already unchecked and everything has been working normally. Do wonder what Legacy Compositing was - and this old thread doesn't help much community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop/legacy-compositing-what-does-it-do/td-p/10154517?page=1

Tony, the same here. Legacy Compositing was already unchecked and I have had no problems with my layers.

I was curious what this option does. This is what I found -- What is Photoshop's Compositing Engine?

According to Adobe, Legacy Compositing is supposed to be off by default but it looks like this is not happening. They mention it in their "Known Issues in Photoshop" document. -- Layer changes don't update correct with Legacy Compositing enabled.

It looks like this is a pretty big "bug". The Adobe Photoshop forums are being flooded with reports. This one was posted just two days ago.-- legacy Compositing has BIG Problem.
