I really need to look further into plug-ins If you don't already have it, I highly recommend - free - MV's Plugins = WireWorm; of all the many plug-ins I have, I believe I would miss it the most. Not really a plug-in, but Elements + will really open new horizons and is money well spent.

Elements+ is not a plug-in, i.e., is not an .8bf file (.plugin on a Mac). It's a set of actions and scripts and additional extras. It costs only $12 and it's worth every penny. About Elements+And it comes with a perk. It's an add-on created by our member -- Andrei Doubrovski. This means . . . in-house Customer Service and a five-star one.

ChrisAnn , good news! A visit to the Adobe forums paid off. 99jon, an Adobe Community Professional, posted a plugin which is compatible with Elements and enables you to open WebP files and save them as Jpeg. Scroll down to the post where he has the link to download it (via DropBox). Once you install this plug-in, this option will be available in the Save As dialog. Solved: Webp image formatNOTE:I installed this plug-in in PSE 2020 -- C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2020\Plug-Ins. It works flawlessly! I'm assuming it will work in the other 64-bit versions of Elements as well. Thank you Sepiana. I tried the plugin and it works great in PSE 2020. Kind regards Chris

I'm yet again battling with webp files. I'm now using PSE 24 on Win11. I've downloaded the WebpShop_0_4_3_Win_x64.8bi file (689 kb). But when I double click it to open it I go straight to the Editor. When I try to open a webp file it still says 'Could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document.' I guess I've not installed it. But when I look at the instructions on Google my remaining brain cells refuse to understand what I need to do. It is now 4 years since I first had this problem and obviously they are even more frazzled than they were then! Can someone give me some idiot proof instructions please.

I keep getting this error message: "You need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder." Eventually I decided to click 'Continue' rather than give up and . . . it was copied to the folder. Double clicking on it opened Editor and I was able to open a webp file.
Thank you I had got to that stage previously but never clicked on Continue - it makes all the difference!
(I'm posting this here as, no doubt, the next time I upgrade I'll get stuck again - but at least I'll know where to come to find the solution. )

Hi ChrisAnn,
I've encountered the same issue with the WebP format when browsing other forums and websites. It can be quite a hassle! WebP is indeed a format developed by Google to optimize image loading times on the web, but it's not always the most user-friendly format when it comes to editing in programs like Photoshop Elements.
One solution I've found useful is using a free desktop converter tool like XnConvert. It's pretty straightforward to use and allows you to batch convert WebP images to JPEG or PNG formats. This way, you can convert multiple images at once without losing too much time.
Alternatively, if you're comfortable with using scripts, there are some Python scripts available online that can automate the conversion process. That might be handy if you frequently run into this problem!

Thanks for your recommendations Matthew. I'll have a look at XnConvert, I think scripts are a bit above my skill level (most things are above my skill level come to think of it ).
