Hi everyone, After the latest Photoshop update (v21.2.2), whenever I open a PSD file, a debug.log file is created and saved with the PSD file (in the same folder). It’s a NotePad file but, when I open it, it’s empty. Has anyone experienced this? I paid a visit to the Adobe Photoshop forum and this has already been reported. You may want to keep an eye on this thread. Photoshop creating a debug.log file when you open a PSD File

UPDATE:
A debug.log file is also being generated when we open a PNG file in Photohsop.

Sepiana, also running the latest Photoshop update (v21.2.2) I can confirm the same experience with psd files, but not consistently. I opened 6 randomly chosen psd files. Four of them did not generate any debug.log file. However two of them did, with one .log file being empty of any data, while the other contained 5 lines of text referring to warnings and an error message. The mystery continues. No change occurred to any of the image files themselves, thankfully!

Pete, thanks for taking the time to post your feedback! In my case, the debug.log file is generated with each and every PSD and PNG file and the file is empty. Pretty annoying!

UPDATE:I revisited that Adobe Photoshop thread and noticed a solution had been posted by mairi0D4D. So, I went ahead and installed Bridge (free, available in my CC subscription). It works!!! No more those pesky files!

Yep, using Bridge to open PSD files in Photoshop does indeed take care of the log file problem. Thanks for posting the work-around! I trust Adobe will soon update Photoshop so that the additional step of switching to Bridge will not be necessary.

Pete, you are most welcome! I can't wait for Adobe to squash this bug. The complaints are flooding their forums; hopefully they will listen!

UPDATE:A few days ago another solution was posted on the Adobe Photoshop forum by Omar_Fathy, Adobe Community Professional. This one doesn't require to keep launching Photoshop as administrator. I followed the instructions and haven't seen this bug since this past Monday. I have opened over 50 PSD files in Photoshop and no bug in sight. Source: Solved: debug.log

According to this post by Pete Green in the Adobe feedback forum, the bug should be solved in the last update:

michelb , thanks for the heads-up. Kudos to Adobe! I had renamed the Spaces file to keep this bug under control ( ~Spaces). So, before I installed this update, I changed the name back. Pleased to confirm that this update "squashed" the bug.
