I followed the tutorial. But I still have a different end result. Is there too much in the image? Margaret I tend to agree with Clive. You chose quite a busy image to start with. Can I ask - Did you reduce the opacity of the image at all ?...I think that might help. Also you could give the image layer a touch of Gaussian Blur to see if that helps.

Here's my next try. However, looking at Clive's sunflower and Judy's submissions (as well as Lillias' eagle and train), I am thinking I may need to put more effort into my next submission to really give it the look of having been drawn on a chalkboard. Thanks for raising your question, Margaret.....we are all learning together.

This was fun although I used a slightly different method from another video which uses the Photocopy filter in the filter gallery. The chalkboard came from StockSolo . Swan from files and I think I need to look for a better one. Off-topic but I was brought up (in the UK) with blackboards but I had to search for chalkboard to find a blackboard. Is it a transatlantic difference or is there a real difference? Tony

Helen I love cherry blossom and I like your page. This is just a suggestion to try to achieve a more chalky look. Try a levels adjustment on your chalk background to lighten the mid tones a little thereby giving a greyer/smudgier chalkier look to it. Also try a slight gaussian blur to your subject as chalk doesn’t give perfect edges to the lines so a blur could help. It’s all trial and error but I love what you have here.
Nice work Tony and yes as per the norm with anything Photoshop there are several different ways of achieving the same effect. Thanks for the link to the video. I’m sure others will appreciate it also. As for your question...I too being brought up and still living in the UK only knew blackboards all my school life. Then along comes political correctness and all changed....enough said...
Last One?.........oh! no! Clive we want more.....love your prickly pear cactus.
Sepiana...on my screen the frame and car are very pale! but I love the volkswagon. Reminds me of many years ago when I had my beloved bright yellow one. Such a fabulous car. In the winter it took me up the icy hill to my home when bigger, fancier, pricier cars got stuck. LOL

This morning it's finally cool enough to run the computer without watching for steam to come out of it. We've had the worst 10-day heat wave I can remember in years.

Part of the background texture comes not from the chalk board but was in the flower image itself.

Ahhh Rita....you have definitely created the look I will be trying to achieve! Helen, I followed Lillias' tutorial precisely, except for applying different Levels adjustments to the upper and lower portion of the picture after it was finished otherwise.

Love both your uploads Rita my favourite being the first one. Sorry you are having this extreme heat. Seeing steam coming out of ones computer is a terrifying thought...

Margaret, The effect is pleasing, but it almost seems like a simple negative vs a chalk drawing. Perhaps it is as you said, "too much in the image? " Clive You are quite right, Clive. I hadn't even thought 'negative'. I did try the opacity change, Lillias. But I didn't care for it. I will try again, with a more suitable image.

My latest try....think it's closer to the chalky look I was trying for. Tried a new chalkboard from StockSolo. I like your owl, Tony.

I did try the opacity change, Lillias. But I didn't care for it. I will try again, with a more suitable image. I look forward to that whippet. You can do it I'm sure and it is the same old story...some images lend themselves better to this technique than others.
