Chalk Effect

I came across this effect on YouTube, liked it and thought it would make a good tutorial for this Challenge. Items Required A photo of a subject (person, flower, object etc;) and a Blackboard texture. See links at the end of this tutorial for a Blackboard Texture, chalk fonts and a link to one of several YouTube videos for this effect. So let’s start and have fun... 1. Open the image from which you want to take your subject. 2. Select the subject and place on a separate layer. Note: If the subject has a plain background you should not need to extract it. 3. Go to Filters > Stylize > Find Edges 4. Press Shift+Ctrl+U to De-saturate extracted image and then Ctrl+I to invert it. 5. Open the blackboard texture and place your de-saturated/inverted image on top of the texture. 6. Size image to fit and arrange in position on your page and change Blend Mode to Screen and adjust opacity if needed. 7. If required add a layer mask to the image layer and using a soft brush at around 50% opacity blend the image into the texture layer. 8. Add any other elements you wish to finish your page to your liking. Thanks for getting this challenge off to a great start Frank with your Virtual Grass Hopper. He looks great on the screen.
Helen I agree, sunflowers are very happy flowers and this one looks just great. Glad you enjoyed the tut:

Helen, lovely architecture in this one. I bet it took you ages to draw it...lol. Sepiana, glad you are enjoying this effect. Nice results. I am finding it a lot of fun to do myself. Clive, not to give my age away but that looks like one of the old school slates we used to get back at the start of my school days. Love your sunflower.

Margaret,
The effect is pleasing, but it almost seems like a simple negative vs a chalk drawing.
Perhaps it is as you said, "too much in the image? "
