Two days ago, my wife saw a hapless grasshopper tangled in a spider web on one of our trailers. The large (egg-laden) spider came along and tried to inject the hopper to kill it. She made one assault, but the hopper kicked up a fuss and she seemed to have missed biting the hopper and moved away again. Eventually, the spider did kill the hopper. In this photo she had already injected enzymes to digest the hopper innards and was sucking the food out of the hopper body. It's gross, but nature is like that and spiders have to eat too. I believe this to be a Cat-faced spider ( Araneus gemmoides). August 26, 2020, near Cowley. Technical side note: I used a 28-yo Minolta 100-mm macro lens for this shot. It fits on my mirrorless Sony with an A-mount-to-E-mount adapter. Also used a 30-yo flash!

Quite an interesting and dramatic photograph. It's nature doing what nature does, to be sure. Technically superb, as well.
Best regards,
Tony
