Charles, glad to hear you figured out what was going on. Kudos to you! Thank you Sepiana! A lot of it was because of you and fotofrank both talking about working on a too large of an image. The more I thought about that the more I thought that just might be a problem. Charles, the credit goes to fotofrank . He brought up the font size/image size variable; I just followed on his steps. Team work!

Try this Add your text and click on the green arrow Now press CTRL/CMD+t to enter the Transform tool Change 100% to 1000% and see if you text shows up. Your suggestion worked for me too, Frank. All of a sudden today neither one of my text tools in PSE 8 and/or PSE 13 would type anything larger than an unreadable size no matter how big a size I chose . I even found on the web how to reset that tool but that didn't work either. I did read on the internet about using a "transform tool" but couldn't find it on either one of my PSE versions. Thanks for your instructions! They did the trick.

I'm sure you guys all already know about this but I will throw it in here anyway.
The maximum text size available in the drop-down menu is often not near big enough; I just click in the box and enter a much larger number until I find one that suits the situation.

You can also use the Move Tool to increase an already completed line of text. I usually use Command/Control T (Transform) so there isn’t difficulty grabbing the text. Once you select Transform, a bounding box appears - same as when you grab the Move Tool. Pull at the corner of the bounding box to enlarge your text without mis-shaping the text.

I do the same thing; I keep increasing the number until I get what I want. As a side note, . . . Elements allows you to enter any number you want (up to 1296 pts). If you try to go over the limit, you will get the warning shown in my screen shot. Then, if you still need a larger font, a possible workaround is to enter a 1296-point text and use Free Transform (Ctrl/Cmmd-T) to enlarge it.
