Great capture of the spider and web, Margaret! And yes, I sang that song with lots of kids over the years!

Neat phot Margaret. Love how you've captured the background ... this is not just a spider photo, but it connects the spider to its environment. Clive

What a colourful spider, just waiting around for lunch to fly in.

@ Jacki. Which brings me to a question. Apart from flies, what else do spiders eat? This poor thing must be starving by now. Not a single fly in sight. @ Clive. The window is behind the spider, that must be why the background looks effective. @ Helen. Sing a bit louder, I couldn't quite hear you. A couple of nights ago, I decided to close the blinds in the conservatory, forgetting about the web, which got demolished. However, another was there next morning.

So Margaret, are you saying that this is an indoor spider? I've seen caterpillars caught up in webs, an on FB recently there was a large tarantula devouring a small bird, a bit gruesome....

I haven't a clue, Jacki. It is big, but I get bigger ones roaming around in my house. And there still aren't any flies in the web. I am almost tempted to catch one myself, and give the poor thing a meal.

Ugh... Yea I'm with you Lillias.
I can't even look at that photo without starting to feel mildly sick.

I am almost tempted to catch one myself, and give the poor thing a meal. I'd like to see that! Maybe the spider is bothered about wrapping up his meals and is devouring them immediately. Is this the only type of orb spider you see in your garden?

It is indoors, Jacki. I have seen them outside before. He has had a meal at last. I caught a bluebottle - which I hate more than anything - and so Incy Wincy had a meal which lasted him for hours.

I think it was too much for him. He looks grossly overweight now. My girls wouldn't be happy having a spider as a sibling.
