I am trying to update Creative Cloud on my Apple Mac desktop but after pressing the update button I get a message saying that it has failed after 2% of updating. It says this "We need your system administrator password to continue the update. Select Retry and follow the instructions in the OS prompt. (Error code : 1004)." I retry as advised but there is no onscreen prompt and it just returns to the same error message. I have also selected the Learn More option but nothing happens. Any ideas as to what I need to do?

Thank you for your reply. However, I think that I have identified the cause of the problem as being this> My Mac Desktop is a mid-2011 model and it seems that I cannot update it from MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 to anything later. PS 2021 and LR Classic need my computer to be at least MacOS 10.14 or later. Because of this Adobe tells me that it is not compatible with my computer. Hey ho, I always thought that something like this might happen one day. Ouch! Looks like I'm staying with PSE2020 for now, although I suppose I can still use the earlier LR and PS versions for now. Thank again.

You are most welcome! You cannot update your Mac but, fortunately, you have other options. That's a good thing!
