Here: photoshopelementsandmore.com/thread/7322/metadata-corruption-habits-e7-e12Over the years, I have acquired and also been exposed to other people's collections of old photos that have absolutely no information whatsoever penciled on the back as to the date (Most important), and the Who, What, and Where of what you are looking at. In the old film days, it was quite common for less well off people to have to wait until money was available to send film off to the developers (York Studios in West Virginia). By the time the envelope of photos finally arrived, important details such as dates and who some of the people are had became hazy in their memory. Often, nobody took a few seconds to pencil anything on the back. I may very well have the only existing photos of someone's great-grandpa who rode for the Stars and Bars, hidden away in a box in top of a closet, and no way of knowing who they are; somebody somewhere would love to get ahold of the photo(s). Such is why it is important to carefully ACCURATELY document every possible detail of every photo you take/have and embed it within the image file for now and for all time to come; and, the same is why it is an unforgivable sin for a program to corrupt or strip away that information.
