I have installed PE 2021, and have kept 2018 as well. I have several Panos FX Actions on 2018 and would like to copy them over to 2021 but for the life of me I cannot find where they are stored! Can anyone help with this please? I know I can install them individually but it would be so much easier to just copy them over.
Thanks - Mike - UK

Hi Mike,
I never did this kind of Copy/Paste job with actions (.atn); I always load them via the Actions panel.
I may be wrong (and, if I am, someone please correct me) but I thought that Elements doesn't store them. However, if it does, the Required folder will be a possible storage place. That's where its built-in actions are (Bottom Borders, Lose Weight, etc.)
If you are on Windows, . . . C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements x.x\Required

Hi Sepiana: thanks for replying. I would have thought that Elements stored them somewhere otherwise it wouldn't know what to do? I will do what I should have done first - ask Panos!
Thanks - Mike - UK

Mike,
Once you load actions via the Actions Panel, Elements knows what do. The actions will stay there unless you delete them or do "Reset Actions".
Will you be kind enough to let us know Panos' answer? Thanks in advance!

Hi Sepiana: "Once you load actions via the Actions Panel, Elements knows what do. The actions will stay there unless you delete them...".
But stay where is my question. I'll certainly pass on anything Panos advises.

I meant . . . they stay displayed in the Actions Panel (unless you delete them or do "Reset Actions").

I load an Action the way Sepiana describes above, when I want to use it. But I have over 70 Actions by Panos alone plus over 80 others and keep only those permanently loaded that I use frequently. All others are stored in a Folder away from Photoshop, loaded when needed and then deleted. The Action Panel would get much too long otherwise.

Hi Sepiana: Panos has replied and told me that his Actions are stored in Windows in C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\PhotoshopElements\version\Presets\Actions
All his Actions start PFx..... and can be copied from one version of Elements to another.
The Action Panel is just an index of Actions available, and clicking on one merely directs Elements to the relevant .atn file, which then contains the processing instructions which Elements needs to carry out to achieve the finished result.

I haven't seen the message from Panos, but I think he was recommending that his actions be moved to C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\PhotoshopElements\version\Presets\Actions, as that is where PSE 2021 looks for actions by default when you click on Load Actions... (the default location for actions may be different in earlier versions of PSE).
When you download one of his actions you are downloading a ZIP file; its contents must be extracted and then moved into a folder of your choosing (i.e. it will not automatically go into the above mentioned folder).
An action is allowed to reside in any folder; when you click on Load Actions... it will open the default folder for your version, but you can navigate to wherever your action is located.

As for loading actions, you should be able to copy/paste or drag/drop into the folder and they will show up in Elements the next time it is started; they may even show up without restarting, as they just lay there dormant until called upon.

I'm afraid it won't accomplish what the OP wants. I have installed PE 2021, and have kept 2018 as well. In this way, if I have to uninstall/reinstall Elements, they will be safe.

As for loading actions, you should be able to copy/paste or drag/drop into the folder and they will show up in Elements the next time it is started; they may even show up without restarting, as they just lay there dormant until called upon. This will work in Elements 10 and earlier versions, where actions had to be installed, i.e., copied/pasted into the appropriate folder within Elements. Adobe made some changes starting with Elements 11. Now we can run actions in Elements as easily as we can in Photoshop. We can keep the action files anywhere on the computer, away from the reach of Elements. Then, when we need to run them, we just load them via Window > Actions. We can also do this, . . . Locate the .atn file on your computer and do ONE of the following to bring the action into Elements. - Double-click on the .atn file. - Right-click on the .atn file and select Open with Photoshop Elements x.x Editor. - Drag-&-drop the .atn file onto the Editor desktop shortcut.

Personally, I prefer having my actions in a folder in My Documents, away from Elements. In this way, if I have to uninstall/reinstall Elements, they will be safe. Me too. Unfortunately I had forgotten I had done that until just tonight! I created several folders on the D: drive (C: is a solid state drive with limited capacity). Here is a picture of my folders for PSE add-ons:
