Hi Sepiana. I have a question about the Selection tool. In PSE 9, I was able to Select All and Contract the marching ants however many pixels I wanted so I could make a frame or cut part of the other layers out, but in PSE2020, it doesn't work. All I can do is make a border that always looks the same or I just make the layout a few pixels larger and make everything else smaller. (I hope I'm making sense.) Any workaround this or input? Thanks in advance Nevermind! I just found the answer in another thread "location matters." This forum rocks! lol

I don’t know if this is exactly the same as you had in PSE 9 but in PSE 2020 I can select an item to get the marching ants and then if I click on Select and choose Modify from the drop down menu I get the choices - Border, Smooth, Expand and Contract. Choosing either Expand or Contract allows me to choose the number of pixels I wish.

I don't have PSE 9 but I have PSE 10 (which is very similar). In both versions you can modify your selection by going to Select>Modify>Expand/Contract. You can also use the Refine Edge dialog to modify your selection. Back in PSE 11, Adobe introduced a "deluxe" Refine Edge brought from Photoshop. That's where you will see a difference. In earlier PSE versions -- Contract/Expand. In PSE 11 and above -- Shift Edge. I believe you are referring to this thread. Would you please tell us how it answered your question? It would help other members who may have a similar question. Thanks in advance!

Sorry I'm just seeing this...I'll explain how what I found helped me. I like to sometimes create a border around an image, starting from the edge of the image and going in toward the center. After creating a new layer & adding a color, I used to be able to Select>Select All (or Ctrl + click on the layer icon) then Select>Modify>Contract by however many pixels I wanted the border to be, then deleting the color in the middle so I'd just have a border. That was on Photoshop Elements 9 (I think.) Now in PSE 2020 I can't do it that way, however, the other thread in this forum that I mentioned showed me how...
Select>Select All. Then Edit>Stroke (Outline) Selection then either Center or Inside for the border. Easy peasy.
I tried the Refine Edge option, but I don't understand the settings. (I think it's too fancy for me lol.)
I hope this helps somebody!
