Before the problem became pandemic, I made $15 from EBay due to packages missing their Guaranteed Delivery, five bucks a pop. EBay must have gotten smart and ditched the guaranteed delivery program; they may never reinstate it.
Some of my stuff has drifted in after over three weeks.
Tracking shows several of my packages going back and forth between the same locations as many as four times.
I have an expensive item that is stranded in Milwaukee since 4th December and it has not yet even been acknowledged as being in USPS hands, although they have had it ever since.
I have two items delivered from China that have been on US soil far longer than it took to get from China to here.
Yet UPS and FED-EX seem to be immune from all this headache as I can see no difference at all from normal times.
At least in my area, even though we are about as rural as it gets, Amazon does their own transport to the local post offices; thus, anything shipped by Amazon gets here as quick as it ever did.
My theory is that there is really no real excuse for the USPS problem and they are intending to intentionally allow it to cave in on itself.
Even before the holiday and pandemic crisis, the USPS were doing some pretty stupid things that really slowed down and confused things. In my area, no local post office has had a postmark stamp for several years. If I mail a letter to my next door neighbor, it goes to Knoxville, 175 miles away and in another state, to be sorted and postmarked, before returning to the local office for delivery, adding at least a day and sometimes three if it is mailed on a Friday.

Feel your pain. Amazon is amazing! HA HA! About 3 weeks ago THEY told ME that they did not know where one of my many orders was and they just shipped a second unit. Everything else gets here in 1 or 2 days and we are in a small rural town. However, I ordered dog calendars (with my photo on the front cover) on Nov 20 from a US company. The company never shipped until Nov 30 (ten days to put in the mail ?!?) and even though I paid $12 CAD shipping (USPS) there was no tracking and I have not idea where the package is at now. Still in the USA? Somewhere in Canada? Sheesh.

HA HA! WOOF! WOOF! Okay this is totally weird. I walked to the mail box and the calendars arrived today. YAY! And they are good quality. Pleased. They are an example of globalization and some hugely weird things that go on in the global marketplace. What I saw and found out explains why the calendars took 34 days to get here. Read on! - Calendars published by a US-based dog website BUT they are ...
- Ordered through a third party apparently in North Carolina BUT
- The country where the calendars are actually printed is unknown....possibly printed in the US but possibly elsewhere. (Not noted on the calendars which makes me think not in the US.)
- Mailing label shows the US address BUT get this ...
- There is a sticker on the cardboard package that reads, "If undeliverable return to Dept. 6001 ... SE - 202 26 Malmo, Sweden"
- HUH!?!
- I did some search and found this written by another US based company, "they take our international packages, load them on a plane in [the US], then fly them to Sweden where they are then shipped off ... That's the main reason it takes so long to get packages from us - unfortunately it's the cheapest option we have available. "
Unreal.

Funny that this topic came up. I sent two packages the same day. Dec 10th. They were going to Southern California and Baltimore. Delivery date of 12/14 for both. The package to California arrived on time and the Baltimore one has yet to arrive. Tracking number status show the last entry 12/16 in transit. Pretty sad btw they were sent from east coast

One of my China packages showed up today. It had spent more time in the US than it had from initial order date to arriving on US soil. After several days of not seeming to move, tracking showed it in Knoxville early on the 16th. In normal times, it would have left Knoxville and made it to my local post office in the middle of the night and been in my mailbox on the 17th. Instead, for whatever reason, it shows up in Smyrna, TN, late on the 17th and from that point seemed to drop off the face of the earth. Then, after seven more days, it is finally here.
Curiously, something I had never before seen with a very small, very light, SpeedPak from China, besides the usual Chinese SpeedPak label, it had two more labels; one was ___reExpress (the first letters were covered by the next label), and then on top of the other two, a UPS Mail Innovations label.
One lost sheep has made it into the fold; four more to go.

Things are exactly the same in the UK, too.

It seems they are just shuttling things from one unlikely place to the next.
I have watched my packages slowly drift back and forth between the same places numerous times and also pass through places that make no logical sense at all, hundreds of miles out of the way.
I would have thought it to be out of season, but I read of a hatchery that had dozens of shipments of baby chicks to die while stranded in the mail.

It can be very frustrating when things are delayed or don't arrive. I am based in Europe. I have had some positive and negative experiences this year. One phone cover from China took about 9 months to arrive. I ordered a replacement tablet battery from China on 2 January 2020 and it got caught up in the lockdown and it never arrived. The seller stopped responding to my enquiries after 6 months. By then, the EBay and Paypal guarantee expired and so I will have to gracefully count my losses ($20). I ordered a lens from the USA which came fairly quickly. I also ordered a manual 650mm T mount lens from China listed at about €50 (In Europe they are listed up to €250). It arrived fairly quickly by DHL. Although an obscure name brand it has a very good build feel to it. Afterwards I noted the price went up to about $250. So I guess I got a good deal there. You win some and you lose some.
Kind regards
Chris

This is getting ridiculous ---
8th December, Item started in La Puente, California, then Los Angelos for several days; finally showing in Memphis TN on 2nd January.
I checked yesterday and it said Departed Memphis.
I just looked a few minutes ago and it says it is now back where it started in La Puente, California.
This is a purchase from a US vendor.
While all this confusion is going on, I have had two packages from China, ordered on the 24th December, and they have been here in my possession for several days.
My sister sent a special novelty Christmas card to my address; this is for my special little 7-yr-old buddy; she mailed it ages ago and it still has not arrived.

My 8th December order, after coming all the way to Memphis and then going all the way back to where it started from in California, now says it is in Atlanta.
I wonder where it will end up next.....
