I opened up Elements 2020 and got a notice there is a new update for this product. I find I also have to log in to get this done.
I do not have any log ins associated with any of my Elements download, just the current license number for each new download.
I do have a log in associated with Adobe and tried that but found that does not work.
Any ideas of what I need to do here to get the new update?
Thank you
P.S. I do hope I put this in the correct forum!!

Charles, It seems you have missed my post from this morning:
I understand you have got the notification that a new update is available and that you have agreed for the update to be installed now or on exit. What's not clear for me is the login question. Could you describe exactly what message appears when you try the update?
Perhaps retry with a clean boot, open PSE2020 in admin mode, choose to install on exit and see what happens.
The reported issue about signing in/signing out in the help doc is not clear.

Charles, Michel,
I installed this update on two copies of PSE 2020 (Windows 10 Pro). In both cases I was logged in as a standard user and was asked to log in as administrator. Could this be the same request?

Michelb and Sepiana, I was surprised to get an update on 2020 since 2021 has previously been released. Here is a screen copy of the notice and the login page. My problem is knowing what login to use as there was no login needed to load 2020 or the last several Elements updates previous to 2020. I do have a login needed to get into Adobe; I tried that login for this update but it did not work. I do not remember needing to login for any previous versions of Elements when an update came along.

Inspeqtor I got the exact same ‘sign in’ window that you got. I entered my Adobe ID and Password and the download and install followed with no problems I’m glad to say.

Thanks for the clarification, Charles. There is no doubt the log in is your Adobe ID, nothing like your licence numbers. The obvious contradiction is that the update is said to prevent a possible security issue preventing you to sign in/sign out, which is about license keys. Can you log in to your Adobe Account independently from your trial to update? Or log in in the Elements user to user forum?
If you can, keep logged in while opening PSE2021 and see what happens, If you can't report back so that will see how to contact Adobe and report this issue.

This kind of log-in is something Adobe introduced some time ago (starting with PSE 2018?). I can think of two possible culprits for the log-in failing . . . 1) You entered a different e-mail address from the one you have on file with Adobe. 2) A password problem (wrong one?). Follow Michel's recommendation and log in to the Adobe site. See what happens. As a side note, I didn't have to do this log-in. I guess it's because I'm also a CC subscriber (Photoshop/Lightroom); I'm automatically logged in.

After I typed in my post 2nd above, at that time I went to adobe.com to try and login. Surprise!! I was NOT able to log in. CRAP!! I cleared my login and re-typed my email login. It again shows " Check your email address or create a new log in" I have not yet been asked to type in my password. I have been using a cardfile type program for many years that I LOVE (azzcardfile dot net) so I know I am typing in the correct email address. My email address in the past has worked! How do I get in now? I can't create a new login as I will lose my past history with Adobe!! Any ideas how to fix my problem?? Thank you All!!

Inspeqtor, I'm glad you got it sorted out. These problems can be very frustrating. My understanding is that Adobe uses "logging in" as a substitute for activation. If ever you switch to a new computer you will need to log out of your old computer before you log in to your new one. For PS Elements, I think you are allowed to log in to a maximum of two devices (main computer and laptop). At least, I think that's how it works.* Kind regards Chris *Second point under "technical questions": www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-elements/faq.html#:~:text=May%20I%20install%20Photoshop%20Elements,product%20on%20your%20new%20computer.
