I went to Pavan Park in the nearby city today (January 7) to look for one specific species of small bird (pine grosbeak), but came up empty. However, a mature bald eagle was perched in a tree. I suspect it might have eaten a large meal and just chilling and digesting—they do that. I was quite far away, but he seemed to be unconcerned. Lovely day here.

WOW....quite a shot, Clive! The clarity, including the detail in his eye is remarkable.

Thank you. I am pleased. Great light and lovely sky. Was fortunate to find a clearing in the thick undergrowth to get a clear shot.

Hope pine grosbeak wasn't on the menu....he does look very happy with himself.

I spent 2 hours last week waiting for one of a pair of eagles (the other in another tree) to fly, and of course at the moment it flew I didn't get it! DANG!!! What camera and lens did you use Clive? With Olympus' future in doubt, I am wondering if I should move over to Sony (mirrorless), but it's lenses seem super expensive . (I'm waiting for Sony to make an adaptor that can use my Olympus lenses)

... the moment it flew I didn't get it! DANG!!! Pat, Never happened to me! No wait ... HA HA. You sure are not alone Pat! I shoot with the Sony A7III and the bird lens is the SONY FE 200-600MM F5.6-6.3 OSS G LENS. Had the camera close to 3 years now. Bought the 200-600 in summer of 2019 and sure pleased with it. Yeah, kinda pricey, but I figure I won't be taking snapshots for many more years, so going out in style. Gives me a LOT of satisfaction and keeps me occupied. When I first got the camera, I used an A-mount 400-mm lens on the new mirrorless with an adapter. IQ was good but it was slow to focus on flying birds. My BIL just bought one of the Nikon Z mirrorless cameras and used an older Nikon lens with an adapter and the same thing ... focus was not good...might even be strictly manual focus. Point being, if you change bodies and find and adapter, check the focus ability. Good luck. Clive
