I saw this on another thread, but wasn't sure it was the same, so started a new thread.. My PSE 2021 organizer is importing 2 copies of the same file when I connect my camera. Windows 10, PSE 2021, Nikon P950. Windows explorer shows 1 file on camera, PSE downloader shows 2 files. After dl via APD, PSE organizer shows 2 files xyz and xyz-1. Windows explorer still shows one file on camera, but now shows 2 (xyz and xyz-1) files in the dated folder the the organizer created. Have had PSE versions for many many years, this is the first time this has come up. Screen shots for clarification:

OK, I might be making headway on this problem...I've never noticed before that there is a "selection" that can be made under the folder option of the APD... for the camera... For some reason, all were checked and dups were downloaded...but when only checking one, only a single was downloaded....interesting! I believe my problem is solved, hopefully this may help others.

Hi Roger, Happy New Year! Feliz Ano Novo! Thanks for starting this thread and posting a solution for this problem! I had done some troubleshooting for michelb but couldn't replicate the problem. This is really good news! photoshopelementsandmore.com/post/77466

There has been a few recent discussions about similar duplicate imports. I have not been able to replicate the issue but it seems that what is happening is that the common factor is the way you download files from a camera or a phone.
Whether it's from phone or camera, to a Mac or Win computer, the device is connected via a cable. In some cases, exploring the whole device (phone or camera) shows several identical folder structures, typically one for the phone internal memory an another in the card. If you use the option to import from camera or card reader, the whole device is scanned. When there are really the same pictures in the device (normally a rare occurence), duplicate files are downloaded. Since you can't store a file with the same name in a folder, a suffix is added. For some reason, the duplicates filtering does not prevent the download to the computer, then it does not prevent either registering the duplicate in the catalog. That's what should be investigated so that the issue can be reproduced by Adobe.
In the meantime, the solution to import your files is rather to use a card reader or importing via the Cloud (Google Photos for instance). If you still use a cable, choose to import from your Explorer to the computer (check that there are no duplicates) and import from 'Files and Folders'.

michelb, I prefer not switching cards, etc, I've always used one usb cable to connect all of my cameras and never had this problem before. The issue I refer to (and solution supplied) is repeatable. The APD sees the one windows folder "p950/removable storage/dcim/100nikon" twice....once as "p950/removable storage/dcim/100nikon" and A SECOND TIME as "p950/dcim/100nikon". When I first tried to figure this issue out I noticed BOTH dcim's were checked in APD folder select option (even though there is only one dcim folder in my windows explorer) and the same file was downloaded TWICE. Once I unchecked (which now remains unchecked) the second dcim in APD "select folders" option, everything downloads exactly correct, and my problem no longer exists when connecting my camera via usb (my preferred method) I hope this better explains my issue and how it was corrected. Cheers, Roger

Hi Roger, Many thanks for the details, especially your last screenshot. Your red arrow to show the folder icon on the right of the 'Get Photos from...' puzzled me and I had to search why that folder arrow did not appear for me. One of the reasons why I did not use a USB cable to download from our Android phones was that as soon as I connected the phone, it started the APD automatically and scanned the phone memory and the microSD card to find all the pictures, and that was so long I aborted the process and I had to download from the Explorer instead or I had to use my current workflow from Dropbox or Google Photos. Well, I have waited until the scan finished. Result: 13 000 photos found, in the DCIM folder of the Phone, in the DCIM folder of the card where I store my photos since a few years... and even 5000 items in my synced Dropbox folder!!! I finally managed to disable the auto importing from the APD by changing the Windows 10 settings. I'll still have to check exactly which workflow lets me dislay that folder icon and be selective for the folders from which to download, but I am on line with your own experience. Also, I suspect that the previous behaviour of importing 'in bulk' from the phone is apt to find thousands of duplicates between the dropbox folders and the two other DCIM folders.

I am the earlier post with the similar experience - except it was with my Fuji Finepix HS50EXR.
Son of a gun, I didn't know the camera stored any info, especially images, except in the SD card. So are we saying that when image downloads are duplicated when downloading from the camera via USB cable that it is reading info that is not only from the card but from the camera, too? That is difficult to fathom unless some data from the card is just bouncing around in the camera giving a fake "duplicate" signal through the cable.
BUT, thanks for showing us the things to look for in PSE and to uncheck when downloading via USB cable.
I also have a P950 and didn't have that problem. Perhaps for some reason when I downloaded from that camera via USB cable that box was already appropriately unchecked. I need to pay closer attention when downloading.
