Brush Frame Border
This Creative Effect Challenge will show you how to add a border to your images using brushes in Photoshop Elements or the full version of Photoshop.
Final Layer stack
Let’s get started:
1. Open an image that you want to add a border/frame.
2. Add a new blank layer. Rename it Border.
3. Press d on your keyboard to reset the colors to Black and White.
4. Select the Brush tool (keyboard shortcut b)
5. From the Tool Options, click on the down arrow to the right of the current brush and select brush Circle 3 from the Assorted Brushes.
6. Go to the Tool Options and click on Brush Settings and change the spacing to 20%.
7. Make sure the Blank Layer (named Border) is selected, and with the brush tool selected, click one time in the top left corner.
8. While holding down the shift key click in the top right corner. You should now have something similar to this across the top edge of your image.
9. While holding down the shift key click in the Bottom right corner. While holding down the shift key click in the Bottom left corner. While holding down the shift key click in the top left corner.
10. Your border should now be complete. You can now add effects to it (Bevels, Drop shadow, etc.)
At this point you can even change the color of the border layer by locking the transparent pixels of the border layer and adding a solid color adjustment layer and clipping it to the boarder layer.
As this border is on a separate layer you can also Transform it as needed.
Feel Free to experiment with your own brush setting and effects.
Alternate Brush Option Settings-
Create one border at an angle of 45 degree's and another at an angle of 135 degree's to achieve an x shaped pattern border.
