I have bought a license for PSE 2021 (macOS) and successfully installed PSE on my 2018 MacMini (Intel). Next I tired to install PSE on my new MacBook Air Late 2020 (M1 silicon). The installation ran through smoothly, and the PSE organizer opens. However when I try to start PSE Editor, I get a banner "Loading Photoshop Elements Editor Workspace" with a spinning symbol for around 20 seconds, but PSE Editor never loads (or asks for the serial as it did on the MacMini upon first launch). So my question is: - Does PSE 2021.1 run on M1 silicon natively?
- If no, can I make it run using Rosetta 2? I found no reference to Rosetta 2 in the PSE App Info (in Finder / Applications)
- Or is my only hope to simply wait for PSE 2022?
Thanks a lot for any help or suggestions

Hi jacobacci, welcome to PSE&M! For starters, I'm the least qualified to be handling your inquiry; I'm on Windows. However, I will get the ball running. Hopefully an Elements/Mac user will come to the rescue. Adobe has just published a document on this issue, which may answer your questions. Also, it has a section on using Adobe apps on Rosetta 2. Do Adobe apps work on Apple computers that use the M1 chip?

Hi jacobacci - I would think you will get a quicker answer asking the question at adobe support.

Thanks a lot everyone for the quick responses. I posted on Adobe Support a few days ago, but no answer so far community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-elements/installing-pse-2021/m-p/11892342#M67573I had seen the document Sepiana mentioned, but interestingly it does not even list PSE or PRE. Adobe does not seem to be very forthcoming with information regarding M1 compatibility. My conclusion at this point is that PSE does NOT run natively on M1 and one need to wait for Adobe to implement it. In the activities app all things Adobe are listed as Intel, not native Apple. What is however very puzzling to me is that in the App information screen I cannot see any reference to Rosetta 2, which should be the case if I try to run an Intel app on an M1 machine. All a bit strange, and Adobe does not seem inclined to help, as if they didn't care much. For me the situation is not so critical, as I have a 2018 Intel MacMini on which PSE runs without issues. I am doing the research for a friend who is about to replace his 2009 iMac with new hardware. Obviously it would be good for him to go straight to an M1 MacMini with a large screen, but if he can't run PSE, that may be a showstopper for him. I had actually found this forum through a thread on the Adobe Support Community and I am hoping that I find someone here who has some clarifying experience

I have a MacBook Pro 13" with the M1 processor, and I run PSE 2020 with no issues. It is an Intel App - you can see this by Finder ... Get Info on the app and looking at the Kind field, which says Application (Intel). If it was compiled to run natively on M1 you would see Application (Universal). I don't know if PSE 2021 is Universal (I don't buy every version), but I can tell you that Adobe is notoriously slow to support new silicon. Remarkably, Acrobat Reader, which is probably the most popular Adobe program, is still Intel only. There is a handy page at isapplesiliconready.com/ that lists a large number of apps and whether they are ready for M1 or Rosetta2. Unfortunately, PSE is not listed. If you want a full list of apps on your Mac and whether they are Universal or Intel, you can go to About this Mac ... System Report ... Software ... Applications and look at the Kind column. Good luck!

PSE 20211.2 which came out 17th March seems to have done the trick. PSE Editor now launches without issues.
