March 13, just north of town. Weak aurora, but the stars were amazing tonight as there is no moon. Never been happy with WB for night shots. Tonight I tried cool white fluor WB and I like it .. will do that again. In this image, exposure, contrast (important) and vibrance were all increased.  |

In southern Alberta, we are too far south for the great displays they get farther north in Alberta or in Yukon, NWT or Alaska. I belong to four aurora FB groups here in Alberta. The FB groups are better then any predictive apps because aurora chasers are crazier than birders.  My main aurora chasers page has over 30,000 members including about 20,000 in Alberta alone. So when aurora start jazzing up, people post real time views with locations. In the field, photographers take cell phone pix of the camera displays and post them. Gives you a good idea of what's happening out there. This can raise heck with sleep patterns. Was up until 1 AM last night and still missed the best part! While looking at one of the group postings this morning, I came across this saying so pasted the words into last night's photo. (I should learn to live by this!!)  |
