This is normally my tool of choice for making selections but for the past month or so it seems to have a life of its own. Sometimes it will not start the selection on the first click - it takes 2 or 3 clicks to start - other times it treats one click as a double click and closes the selection before it is finished. It is almost impossible to use the tool at all. I have tried resetting it loads of times but to no avail.
Is it me or has anyone come across this before?

What's your screen resolution? I've come across a problem with very high resolutions needing to be dropped down to something like 2560x1440 to get the Pen Tool to behave itself.

Hi phildc. That is what my screen resolution is. It has not changed in the last few months. Did we have a patch to Elements a few months ago?? It is only the polygonal lasso tool that isn't behaving. |

Have now reset all tools and it is still the same.

HappyScot, I have encountered the scenario you are describing re the Polygonal Lasso tool; I have noticed it in more recent versions of Elements (2018 and above). Resetting this tool didn't help. Here is what worked for me -- run Elements as administrator. 1. Right-click on the desktop shortcut and select "Run as administrator". 2. Test the Polygonal Lasso. 3. If everything is working fine, close Elements. 4. Open Elements again but this time do it from your standard user account. I did this a long time ago and the problem seems to be gone. |

And Sepiana, it has gone for me now as well. Thank you so much for that. I would never have found that one! It has worked ok for years and then all of a sudden it started to throw a strop! Temperamental tools - that is all we need in lockdown! Thanks again!  |
