Thank you very much for sharing these wonderful pictures. The baby bear looks very cute and inquisitive. It's good you have a long lens that enables you to keep your distance!
Kind regards Chris

How exciting, wonderful photos. Your adrenaline levels must have gone through the roof, I know mine would have.

Fabulous images, my favourite is the one of the cub. I'm with Jacki...my adrenaline levels would have jumped somewhat.

Thanks to all. It was a good day. As for "adrenaline levels" ... no elevated levels. Seeing bears in Waterton is quite common, although this was one of the better encounters. Even with her cubs nearby, this mother bear pretty much just ignored us...she has seen people all of her life. At one point, I was only ~25 m from her, but I also was only 5 m from the car. At no time did she show concern with us being there. Was a good day! Clive

you didn't make the headlines! HA HA! I am a wimp and always aware. Bears can be dangerous, but actual attacks are rare when you consider the number of outdoor-person-days and numbers of bears across North America. Depending on source, there are an estimated 500,000 to one million black bears in North America. I actually know (or met) three people who were attacked by bears. One attack (ca 1965) was life altering. The other two (one in the 50s and one in the 70s) were minor. It would have been easy to provoke an attack the other day. Anyone getting near the two cubs would have been in trouble ... the stupidity would have been akin to stepping in front of a truck on the freeway. The saying is "Be bear aware." Clive

The baby is adorable. Black bears are obviously not becoming extinct, then.
