Creative Effects Challenge No.149 - RAW Misty House

Here is my second attempt with a colour version.



1- First into ACR with the adjustments shown.
2- Applied Topaz Denoise AI
3- Applied Redfiels Quadpencil with early reflections preset to create a sketch effect. Then dialled in 68% transparency to taste.
4- Channel mixer adjustment layer set to "Warm" preset.
5- Enlarged the canvas.
6- Combined all layers and applied a 15 pixel medium grey stroke outside the picture on a separate layer; added a bevel.
7- Finished off with a gold frame by Jodi Frye and a 95% grey inner border.

As the host of this challenge it is so rewarding to come on and see that I'm not the only one who was working on it today.

I tried to create something along the lines of Gerry Blanchard. Awhile ago I created a thread dedicated to his style.  I thought the geometric shapes in the starter might work well for his technique.

Unlike Chris....who seems to work in such an orderly fashion, I had tons of layers....which I added, deleted and rearranged.  I am admittedly bad at trying to share what I did to get to the final results.  However, in a nutshell, I combined my attempt at replicating his style with
an image that I took into Topaz Simplify using BuzSim II.

Was just about to start on this earlier this week when I ran into a computer issue - long story short it came back today with a new drive and fortunately only a handful of corrupted files that I have back-ups of. So far so good so to see if there were any other issues I went back to editing this one.

Did a little straightening and cropping and then decided to apply the raw filter separately to the house and background so did a selection and worked the layers separately. In the end I don't think there was much difference between the two. Like tourerjim I found curves to be most useful to getting the look I was aiming for although I also found a white balance adjustment good to warm it up.

Having collapsed the layers I reapplied the raw filter, tweaked some settings and applied a profile (Modern 2)

Saved it and happy to see I got to the end of the process with no computer issues

Wanted to try to see if I could give it more of a daytime look. Started with Topaz De Noise AI (not the newest version). Adjusted white balance and basic settings in Camera RAW. Applied a Hue/Saturation filter on the trees on the right. Added one of my skies with clouds hoping it might work with the mist in the trees which was still evident. Using NIK CE4....chose Skylight, Sunlight and Pro Contrast filters adjusting to taste. Oh....and toned down that patch of bright green grass on the left.

Thanks for letting us work on your image, Judy. Chris, your sepia/orton edit was beautiful!  I am so impressed with Gerry Blanchard's style....it was fun trying it out on your image.
