This is driving me crazy and only started recently. When I click on my PE shortcut and get the Organizer/Editor screen, I also get an ad for PE 13, which I ignore. When I click on "Editor," a window pops up saying "Sign In Required. Please sign in with your Adobe ID," followed by a paragraph headed by "Terms and conditions for trial software." I "x out" the screen and then get a screen stating "Quit. Are you sure you want to quit?" I click on Yes, and it then I have to click on "Editor" again and it lets me open Elements. However, then I get the whole "Sign In Required" screen again and have to repeat the whole process. Only then does the irritating ad disappear and I can get on with my editing. I have no idea how this started nor how to stop it. If this continues, I don't think I'll be able to continue using Elements. Any suggestions, please?

Hi juliedee, welcome to PSE&M!
I am not sure I know what is going on but I have a question. Did you try to sign in with your Adobe ID? What happens?
As a side note -- It looks like you have posted in the Adobe Photoshop Elements forum. I am posting the link here; it will benefit anyone following this thread and trying to help you.

EDIT: I have just thought of something. Go to Help in the menu bar. What does it say? Sign in? Or Sign out (+ your email address)?

Thanks for your reply, Sepiana. The reason I posted here in addition to the forums.adobe.com site is that I was getting no help on the other site, and my past experience with Elements Village is that people were very helpful and usually responded quite quickly, just as you have.
When I clicked on the "Sign in" button, I got an Adobe Photoshop Elements trial screen (with "Adobe Photoshop Elements 12--not 13--printed at the very top of this window). In the lower right corner, there was a button, "Start Trial."
Were you asking me to go to Help from within PE12? When I did, at the bottom of the list was "sign in," so I clicked on it and got, "Please sign in with your Adobe ID" (with my email address next to the request). It took me to a window for an Elements 12 trial! With 30 days left. I did not click on "Start trail." Good grief, I own my PE12 disks and they have me registered. I haven't been looking at other versions, so go figure!
BTW, I discovered how to get PE to open directly into the Editor, but I still get that darned Sign In screen. I'm ready to tear my hair out!

juliedee,
No problem. I am keeping an eye on your thread in the Adobe forum to see if you get an answer. BTW, this seems to be an issue with Elements 12. Someone else reported it. (I am keeping an eye on this other thread too.)

I am not sure what to suggest. Maybe you could try to uninstall/reinstall Elements. Which OS do you use? If you are on Windows, make sure that you temporarily turn off your antivirus program and install this program as administrator. Also, you need to make sure that no residual files are left in the registry after you uninstall Elements. You can do a manual deletion of such files if you are comfortable tackling the registry or you could use a third-party program to do it for you such as . . . download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstaller/3000-2096_4-10687648.html?tag=mncol.
Question: How are you opening the Editor directly?

Sepiana,
I have Windows 7. I open the Editor directly by just clicking on my desktop's PE shortcut icon. Until a couple of days ago, I'd click on the shortcut and get a little screen giving me a choice between the Editor and the Organizer. Then I discovered a little Settings button on that menu that allowed me a choice of how to open PE. I prefer the Editor, so chose that.
I thought of re-installing PE but am worried about the complications that might result and the time it would take. Thanks for the suggestion on the uninstaller programs. Yesterday I met someone having exactly the same problem with PE 12. Said he's tried a number of things which haven't worked. Is this a ploy by Adobe to force us into PE 13? What hitches come with that program, I wonder? Are there only a couple of us on this forum who are having the same problem?
Thanks for your time and attention, Sepiana, and for keeping an eye on the Adobe forum.

Hi juliedee,
I am not sure this will help but you could try creating a direct shortcut to the Editor. Navigate the path below, right-click on the Editor .exe file, and select Send to>Desktop (create shortcut.)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 12\PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe
You could also try this -- Right-click on the desktop shortcut you created and select Run as administrator.
As a side note -- It may be a good idea to post in the Adobe Feedback forum.

I had a problem with similarities to yours but different. Under the help menu in elements 13 I clicked on sign out as I was trying to see if update for adobe raw 9.1 was available. I then had a screen come up about a trial version. What I did was put my product code back in on one of the prompts, elements was back to normal. So i'm wondering if you have tried putting your product code back in or tried signing out and then back in with your product code. You also need to know your adobe password and email for when you registered the product. Just an idea to try

Hi everyone. I'm a new member who just came across this site today while searching for a solution to the same type of dilemma this thread is addressing. I've been using a registered version of Elements 12 since 2-19-2014. It's functioned well until this week when the problem started. Before, whenever I clicked on the desktop icon to open my Elements program it would always take me to the welcome window with a choice to click on the Organizer or the Editor. Now when I click the icon a sign-in window pops up for the trial version. If I choose to sign in I am told that the trial period has expired. If I choose the option to quit I am bumped back out to the desktop. Either way, it's as if I have been completely locked out of Elements. I've tried Adobe help but found there is no real way to reach any form of customer support other than their forum which has people with the same problem but no answers or solutions posted. Just as Juliedee has stated; I don't know how or why this has started to occur, and with my lack of computer savvy I don't have a clue how to fix it. I also tried the other options that Juliedee speaks of but each time it goes in a frustrating circle that ends up dumping me out. On top of that, I shot my family reunion last week and everyone is waiting for me to send them the disk I promised to make for them. I am posting this just so anyone else out there who is experiencing this knows "You're not alone". Perhaps it will be read by someone who has found a breakthrough. In the meantime, I've got a clunker PE12 sitting dead on the side of the road.

Hi alb, welcome to PSE&M! Glad to have you here.
Sorry to hear you are also having this problem. It looks like you have tried all the suggestions so far. No results! There is something else you could try. Uninstall your copy of Elements 12. Then, download a replacement installer and use your serial number. You may not have this problem with a fresh download.
helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/photoshop-elements-downloads.html
NOTE: Don't forget to deactivate your current copy of Elements 12 before uninstalling it. Go to Help>Sign Out>[Your Adobe ID]. Sign Out = Deactivate.
