This Creative Effects Challenge will show you how to create a Pixelated image using Layers in Photoshop Elements or the full version of Photoshop.

Please read thru the entire tutorial before you start.
Let’s get started:
1. Open an image.
2. Duplicate the layer (Ctrl/CMD+j).
3. On the Duplicated layer, Go to Filter>Pixelate>Mosaic. Adjust the Cell Size accordingly. Make sure the Preview is checked so you can see the impact of the filter.
4. Add a Layer mask to the duplicated layer.
5. Reset your colors to their default. Press the letter d on your keyboard.
6. On the layer mask, use a Gradient or a soft brush to paint with black to bring back some of the original image.
7. You are now finished.
Please note that I used Darker Color as a blendmode, you may want to try other blending modes or use a different gradient to get the effect that you are attempting to achieve.
