First the view when I looked down from my balcony this morning......and then a section from the street when I came home this afternoon. In honor of Veteran's Day. Lovely Helen. I never attended Remembrance Day services here but paused at 11 AM. I posted a small item on my own FB page. Canada geese and snow geese across the road this afternoon. Snow geese show here on occasion but they are not regular visitors.

Great pictures, Clive. I especially like the first one. Nice focus on the geese against the blurred background which is still identifiable.

Great pictures, Clive. I especially like the first one. Thank you Helen. Good comment about the background. I take a lot if flying bird photos and much prefer photos with anything in the background other than boring sky. I do not like manmade structures in the background: bldgs, poles, power lines, etc. The flying snow geese works (for me) because they were so close. But, yes, backgrounds can be as important as the primary subject.

Our Christmas cactuses (cacti) are blooming well. I set a pot in the dining table so one flower was in the sun and the background in shade. Bird nerd stuff. These are NOT Canada geese. Anyone know what they are?

More birds today.... Sharp-shinned hawk outside our kitchen window. And a small portion of a large group of snow geese. There are ~3,100 geese in this one photo... likely between 2,800 and 3,400. Right now there likely are more than 100,000 snow geese within 45 minutes of our house. (Good thing we don't have to use film, eh?)

Sharp-shinned hawk outside our kitchen window. Is that shot through the glass ?
Such makes me wonder if he can see you through the glass.
That second photo makes me think Alfred Hitchcock "The Birds" - by the way, I have had that recorded for a year or more; I need to watch it; I saw it when I was about 8-yrs-old and I didn't go outside for weeks.

It was dull today and there were no lights on. I moved away slowly when I saw it and returned carefully. As I've seen before, it was more concerned about finding a sparrow to eat. I never saw that movie or any horror movies since I watched one when I was about 13. Nope. Never again.

A rarity around these parts. Zero wind. Not a ripple. I took out a couple of minor surface imperfections...floating dead weed parts. Clive, a cool picture, thanks for sharing. I like the minimalist approach. If this picture were taken at Loch Ness in Scotland, I think it would create quite a stir! Kind regards Chris

The "Nessie" angle never occurred to me. BTW, below is the image out of ACR before the imperfections were removed.

Thinking about the current weekly challenge.....half-full/half-empty, I considered this half-full perfume bottle but am hoping to come up with a more creative subject. However, placing it on top of my husband's black laptop in front of the TV, I really liked the way the colors of the TV reflected on the laptop and the bottle.

A skiff of snow fell last night. I saw one of these mini picnic tables so built three of them. The idea started with people feeding squirrels. Never too old to do silly things. Blue jay on our back deck this morning and in an aspen tree.

Blue jay on our back deck this morning and in an aspen tree. I think Bluejays are the prettiest birds.
I see several around here, so long as the camera is inside the house; the best way to make them disappear is to go get the camera = gauranteed I won't see a single one.
And, they won't be still for a second.
