I'm not sure the image above will appear as an image. I will have to create the thread to see if it does.
Should it appear as a message, which it is, has anyone had to solve it before they could move on with editing? I am stopped totally and have tried looking for what is described here but find nothing in Finder about a "Get Info" command, nor anything else referred to in the message. I am running Photoshop Elements 19. Have never seen a message like this.
Any help appreciated greatly.

The file you are working on is locked and needs to be unlocked. This can be done a number of way. You can right click on the image in finder and select Get Info If locked is checked - simply uncheck it or with the image selected in finder press Command+I to bring up the get info box. Did you try to rename and save it to a different file by doing a "save as"?

It looks like you are using a Mac. So try the Search (in the upper right corner of screen) for that file name. If something shows up, then click on the "Get Info" command in Finder. This will open a window on the left side of your screen. This will have all kinds of info. Look to the bottom of the screen and there are the "permission" settings. Anything odd there?? Second thing to try is this: Did you look at, copy, or do anything else with this file with any other app?? Close app, and see what happens. Third thing to try is close all apps, restart and try again. Good luck, this can be icky!

I have been able to create this issue by locking and then editing the image. I would stay away from the permission filed as it can cause all kinds of problems.

Agreed! Thanks for the screen shot too! Sometimes hard to find the file in question for me.

On a MacAfter clicking on the file, go to the top of the computer screen
You can also use Command I - that keyboard shortcut will take you directly to the Info Screen
You'll find "locked" under "general"

Thank you everyone. I opened my image in order to fix the problem I was having by following the above posts, when, for no apparent reason I can find, I no had the problem!! I kept going and, sure enough, it worked as it should without my doing anything.
I have no idea why the problem occurred to begin with and even less of an idea as to why the issue disappeared but I have downloaded and will print out these posts. It's been my experience that even though a problem seems fixed, it isn't.
So I am copying the posts to save "just in case." Thank you, all.
